He's 27 and has "little experience"? I'm not buying it. I'd be surprised if he hasn't had some vocal training, as well.

His mother is a professional singer. In fact he said in the preperformance interview that the standards were what she sang as a professional. He may not have had "formal" lessons but he's at least had some exposure and influence from her.

"The 4 reasons you listed are the 4 reasons this particular woman loves Katherine. Beautiful, talented, and um, curvaceous"

The whole package, soup to nuts.

If you'll pardon the expression.

"Rod seemed like he was having just as much fun meeting the contestants as they had meeting him"

I thought clutching the baby with the "fiance" was a bit much.

But Rod seems like a regular bloke when you get past all of his other nonsense.

For what it's worth, here's DialIdol's ranking for last night:

1-3 Taylor Hicks 30.774
1-3 Elliott Yamin 30.29
1-3 Katharine McPhee 27.763
4-6 Kellie Pickler 27.188
4-6 Chris Daughtry 25.409
4-6 Paris Bennett 24.376
7 Ace Young 20.5

I won't be surprised if Paris and Ace are in the bottom three, but will be if Chris is. Ace in last place is in line with the majority of predictions out there -- consensus being that he will go home tonight. (He did look like a bad Antonio Banderas immitation last night.)

I can't believe that Chris is in the bottom three...Kelly should be there, but we all know she has a strong fan base.

We don't know that he is for sure. That's only DialIdol's ranking based on whatever they do with busy signals.

My own bottom three are Kellie, Ace and Katharine, and Kellie should go home tonight. But it won't happen that way.

No way should Chris be in the bottom 3!!!

I keep replaying his Wonderful World, and when he sings

"I hear babies cry, & I watch them grow...
they'll learn much more than I'll EVER know..."

it sounds like he really means it.

I have always liked Chris (1st) and Katherine (2nd). They both sounded great last night! I'm hoping Kellie or Ace will go tonight......

Do they want the best singer? Do they want a performer? Do they want a sex symbol?

I think they want the person who will enable them to make the most amout of money and keep the highest possible number of people watching the show. It's all about "Show me the money!"

Simon does what he does to generate buzz, have people talking about him and what he said, and to "entertain" people. I know people who watch the show mainly to see what Simon's going to say each week. They could care less who wins.

I don't honestly believe that AI is "pimping" for anyone in particular. I honestly don't buy into the "Simon said this or that" to "gain so and so the sympathy vote" or "to lessen the sympathy vote", etc.

I believe America's going to vote for who they want to vote for, regardless of what Simon says. It may impact the earlier rounds, but when you get to this level, pretty much everyone has already decided who their pulling (and voting) for, and as their person loses, they have a back up.

...someone from Fuel was cut from the band and that they have contacted Chris...

Someone did leave their band, and they are looking for a new lead singer. I had heard that they contacted Chris and asked him to "apply". That was the rumor I heard several weeks ago, right after he sang the Fuel song.

He did sing one Fuel song early, and many people stated that it was "better than the original". He has not sung a 2nd Fuel song.

That link of yours is really something.

I just love hearing them only. Some are better than I thought...some worse!

Just have one week where they do an original.

Nashville Star has done this for the past 3 years (I missed the first year), and it's been very good. Some great original songs. This year there was only one really good original song. However, the person who had the hands down worst original song did not get voted off. But, she's the only woman left in the competion (it was 4 to 1, now it's 3 to 1).

I justheard on tne radio that some gambling place in Vegas has Elliot as the next to go. I don't see it, but who knows.

The thing we have to keep in mind regarding Dial Idol is that they measure the busy signals from those using their software.

While it isn't 100%, it does give us a peak into the window. I'd be surprised too if Chris were in the bottom three.

Geeze, can you imagine the pouting and crap we'll have to endure if Pickles is in the bottom 3.

Folks,
This much is clear -- THE WEEKLY DIALING RESULTS OF BOTH DialIdol.com and the AT&T Landlines clearly shows a distinct DIRECTION that cannot be ignored.

The top 3 used to consistently be -- Chris, Taylor and Kellie. Now, it seems that Kat is displacing Kellie by a tiny number. This is not enough for us to conclude anything yet, but quite enough to know that the top 4 might be two men and two women. Kat is VERY OBVIOUSLY ON THE UP-SWING.

If you bothered to look at the actual dialing numbers, you might be surprised to know that Taylor is always number 1. He is a very polarizing figure because his style is a throwback to the great singers of the late 60's and 70's --- music which the young ones no longer appreciate. That is why you see so much love and hate for the man. SOUL PATROL is very rabid and unified and you'll continue to see him on top until the rest are eliminated and voters of the those gone gravitate to the remaining ones. THEN, you'll see how large the SOUL PATROL numbers are ( I suspect they number in the millions ). Within weeks, it's going to be Soul Patrol vs The rest of America. THEN, well get to REALLY see how large Soul Patrol is. In Taylor, you are seeing some sort of generational war going with the later Gen Xers and baby boomers loving him and the under 25's NOT liking him. In Taylor, there is no in between. Simon has nightmares of him winning because he has a financial stake in the outcome and is used to marketing/promoting modern pop singers whose genre he is familiar with selling. Simon DOES NOT know how to sell Taylor.

Chris is easier to sell because his style fits into the current Boy/Girl band, hip hop, R&B, rapper, ALT-rock genre that is the current music fad. That's why Simon prefers Chris to win.

Katharine is relatively easier to sell because she is one of the most beautiful women to grace AI in it's 5 seasons. She has the cover girl look, the voice to match, and as Simon says in her pre-idol audition -- CURRENT. I'm not sure what modern niche she fits in because her style is very Cabaret/Broadway ( she starred in Annie Get Your Gun on stage last year ). Kat's style reminds me more of Barbra Streisand. But I don't know how that will sell. I'm not sure how "force fitting" Kat into one of the modern style mode will go .... It could be Kat can adopt like Kelly Clarkson did. But I can't answer that question just yet. I am a fan of her type of music but I am just one person and don't really represent the modern market ( I dislike MOST MODERN faddish music and simply got dis-interested buying these CDs in the early 90's ). I just continue to watch them as a cultural phenomenon but NEVER enjoy them. There used to be a time when I eagerly anticipated the Grammies.... NO LONGER. That's how modern music has lost a baby boomer like me.

But note --- Baby Boomers are a $2 Trillion market and guys like Simon who continue to ignore our taste are losing a significant opportunity to profit by simply concentrating on what they are comfortable with.

I agree, the talent is awesome and I actually enjoy watching NS much more than AI.

Even though the talent on NS is better, I enjoy AI much, much more than NS. NS as a TV show is horrible. Production values are bad, the "judges" are bad, the hosts (particularly Wynonna) are horrible, the sets are bad. This is the worst season of NS, by far, but probably the best talent.

Mat Mason and Chris Young are "extra special?

I like Chris, Mat's OK, but I'm pulling for my homeboy, Casey Rivers. His "hometown" concert is tomorrow night, and I'm thinking about going. It's only about 30 minutes away.
