Looks like it could be another crappy night. They shouldn't even give them a list of songs unless the songs have ALREADY been cleared.

Hmmmm....that is interesting about the song choices. Word was that Country Roads was Taylor's 2nd choice for country week, too. I read somewhere higher up on the thread that he wanted to sing a Hank Williams Jr. song.

I'm not in a hurry for 90's at all! LOL!! 90's in Chicago bring humidity and frizzy hair. Last week it was in the upper 70's/low 80's and that was perfect. So 45 and rain really stank after such beautiful weather.

Joni Hicks, grandmother of the Soul Patrolman, said seeing her grandson on television makes her very proud. "I think, there's my baby, who I think is so beautiful," she said. "There he is, with the whole world seeing him. I can actually feel my heart swelling."

Awwwww....that is sooo sweet.

If this is the case, I honestly think that there will be a big backlash. Last year it seemed like there was a list of approved songs to choose from because I remember Bo saying he was really happy to see Vehicle for 70's week.

If this rumor is true, it really stinks. I also hope Paris NAILS it to the wall if she's only had a very short time to learn it. She really could have blown the competition out of the water this week at least among the females.

I thought that was nice, too! :) She sounds like a real sweetheart.

Here's an article from the Philadelphia Daily News
http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/living/14366321.htm

Ellen Gray | In 'Idol' audience: Hands up, signs down

AMERICAN IDOL. 8 tonight, Channel 29.

LOS ANGELES - You wouldn't know it from my e-mail, but it is entirely possible for ardent fans of rival "American Idol" contestants to co-exist happily together for an hour or more.

Though it probably helps if they're at "Idol's" live show, which currently airs here twice a week from CBS Television City studios. (Apparently, if the money's right, Fox and CBS can also co-exist.)

Lions may not have been spotted lying down with lambs - for one thing, it's way too noisy - but as my younger son and I waited last week outside Stage 36 to get into the Queen-night show, I didn't see the Ace Young fan carrying the sign with the playing cards and the motto, "Ace Makes a Winning Hand," do anything but nod and smile at her fellow sign-holders, whose messages ranged from "Go McFever" (for Katharine McPhee) and "Chris Rocks" (for Chris Daughtry) to "Chicks Hicks" (for Taylor Hicks).

Everyone just seemed happy to have made it past security, which had taken possession of more than a dozen cell phones and cameras by the time we walked through the metal-detector, despite specific instructions that accompanied our tickets, warning that they'd be confiscated.

Here are some of the other things we learned from our evening as Ryan Seacrest's laugh track:

• You can clap any way you want at home. You can even sit on your hands. But if you clap on "American Idol" - and clapping is strongly encouraged - they'd prefer you do it with your hands over your head. This may or may not make you feel like an idiot, but they say it looks much better on TV.

• It is OK to boo Simon Cowell. In fact, it is encouraged. Plus, Simon seems to enjoy it.

• While it may seem counter-intuitive, given the over-the-head clapping instructions, "Idol" producers would prefer that sign-carriers keep their placards below their chins. This is so Ryan can see the TelePrompTer at the back of the stage.

(Honk if you thought that stuff he says is actually made up on the spot.)

• CBS, not Fox, provides the young pages whose jobs include passing through the audience before the show begins, carrying foam cups and begging people to deposit their chewing gum. Of course, one of those poor kids may someday run a major network.

• On camera, Paula Abdul might be Red Riding Hood and Simon the Big Bad Wolf, but during commercial breaks, we were as likely to see Simon shaking hands with young children or signing autographs while Paula got her makeup touched up as the other way around. (In fairness, she probably wears more makeup.) Randy Jackson, who headed for the judges' exit during some breaks, signed his share of autographs along the way.

• Off-camera, Simon hugged Paula as if he meant it. But past "Idol" winner Fantasia, who was in the house for the show, got the Full Simon, exchanging more than a half-dozen cheek kisses and one long buss on the lips with the T-shirted Brit.

He does seem like the type who would like to get slapped around a bit.

And I thought I saw Fantasia in the audience, but don't recall them making a big deal about it or even acknowledging her. Normally when past Idol's are in the audience they at least put the camera on them long enough to throw a banner across the bottom of the screen with the person's name. I just saw her over Simon's shoulder.

Retro - they showed Fanstasia and identified her right at the beginning while Ryan was doing his opening monologue.

I must have missed it, cause I didn't even notice her until much later in the show. I'm about as observant as a rock most of the time. LOL!!

Ok another possible song spoiler. Put this in the for what it is worth category. Someone on the Idol boards posted a statement from Ace's weekly email to his fans. They said it may contain clues to his song choice.

This week I’m going to look sharp and let everyone know how I can clean up.

I posted that my take on that was that his reference to cleaning up and how he is going to look points to the song "How You Look Tonight"

Anyway, the thread that that was posted on has been deleted -- the Idol forum has been deleting all threads with song spoilers, so since that thread got deleted quickly after I named the song, I take it that the guess was pretty good.

If this competition gets down to about 5 or 4 contestants, I am quite certain Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry will both be in the top 5 or 4.

Then the votes become interesting. It will then begin to look like a generational battle -- OLDIES vs The Young Un's.

Chris will DEFINITELY win the UNDER 20 and believe me, they are the ones who tend to super dial. Taylor will win the older Gen Xers and Boomers votes because of his throwback style ( I suspect most of the Soul Patrolers are older Gen Xers or Baby Boomers ).

WHO WILL WIN ? Hard to tell.

Me, being a tail-end boomer myself will certaintly support Taylor. But I'm just one man. My teenage daughter will be voting Chris and so will lots of her friends.

In a sense this looks like AARP vs High School and College kids -- This in a sense, mirrors the Social Security battle we have in this country :)

HMmm Looks like Rod Stewart is singing "The Way You Look Tonight" on tomorrow's show.

I doubt they will let Ace sing it tonight if that is the case. Still, they deleted the thread awful quick. hmmmmm

Any idea if this little caveat in the AI FAQ's has ever been exercised:

"Rules and procedures are subject to change at producer’s discretion without notice."

Just curious...
