I remember last year he wasn't hot on Carrie and it was obvious and then the final night, he had to admit she nailed it and would probably win! And now her first single just went TRIPLE PLATNIUM..

That's because he doesn't like country and she did a lot of country. He even called her a stepford wife one night.

Because he connects with the audience. He needs to ignore Simon. Simon doesn't have Taylor's best interests at heart. Taylor just needs to keep putting his heart and soul into what he sings.

Exactly. I said yesterday that Taylor just needs to be Taylor. His performances come from his soul. We all saw it when he played the harmonica in the final cut. Just keep doing that and forget waht Simon says.

My take on it was they were running out of time - this is a live show so they have to keep to a strict schedule. So when Simon made his comment about Paris's act being "weird", the Idol Theme Song came on abruptly to move the show along (kinda like they do at the Oscar's when someone's speech goes on too long).

I think your take is right, Rocket.

Simon told Carrie very early on that she was going to sell a lot of records. And, I believe he said that she would sell more than anyone else would.

On any given night Simon will tell anyone that they are the best and its theirs to lose. He even told Bo last year that it was his to lose. Simon even said as much on Larry King live, that he says one thing one night and goes completely different the next.

Chris is good at what he does and may make the top 3, but I seriously doubt he'll win. I think his difficulties increase as contestants drop out. His appeal is very narrow, and I'd wager the votes from the leaving contestants will go to just about anybody but Chris.

I think Gray Charles has the long version of The Fall. I have it and it's great! He was only like 20 when he wrote the In Your Time album.

On this show.... he consistently comes in number 1. Because he connects with the audience. He needs to ignore Simon. Simon doesn't have Taylor's best interests at heart. Taylor just needs to keep putting his heart and soul into what he sings. I loved the ending to CLTCL, where he lets loose.

He was just getting warmed up too. Too bad he didn't have longer.

The long version seems different than the shorter clip. I don't hear the strong passion in the long version???

Chris will win. They want him to win. They are pushing for it. If you have the season taped or on DVR, go back and look at his performances. Note the added lighting and smoke and other production applied to his performances, while everyone else is given LAME production. (I.E. enormous background singers on the screen behind, deliberately taking the focus off of the contestant.) The "marketing" is so blatantly obvious, I guess they think we are too stupid to figure out how they are trying to manipulate the audience.

Look at the "Dial Idol" numbers. Taylor runs away with it every week!!! If When Chris wins, the gig is up with AI, in my opinion. They will have just shown their "Ace up the sleeve" to the world. I won't watch next season if Taylor doesn't win. He is obviously the best one there, and he gets the most votes consistently. I do not believe his fan base will be swayed by one good "Chris" performance during the final competition.

That is typical with him. He changes up the song to fit his mood it seems. That was just the accoustical version. I think that they are going to rerelease In Your Time after the show is over.

Great post and you are correct. Taylor's base isn't your typical AI audience. That's why they are frustrated in a way. We can see through the obvious.

Folks,

This opinion I got from another website says it all...

There's no two ways to go about it. AMERICAN IDOL NEEDS AN OUTSIDE AUDITOR (e.g. Price Waterhouse ).

There will always be an aura of suspicion surrounding the voting as long as they refuse to offer or acknowledge any independent assurance on the process or its results (e.g., PwC auditing the Academy Awards votes).

As a further analogy, what investor on earth would rely on financial statements filed by a company without an auditor’s opinion? This is not the stuff of “grassy knolls” but rather of independent, adult thought.

Just bear in mind AI is a TV show meant solely to generate as much advertising/licensing, etc, as possible (and more power to them!!). There is a natural incentive to keep the drama and entertainment value spaced appropriately and kept to the max. Personally, I would find it more enjoyable if a third party was willing to put their stamp on it, but perhaps the balance of the spoon-fed sheeple out there aren’t interested in such assurances.

I of course, have a connection to Taylor, and wouldn’t be watching the show otherwise. The thing is -- I haven't seen a performer like him in this show at all. The fact that he worked hard for over 10 years to get to where he is now gives me added motivation to like him. I guess because at heart, I am still an old time American boy -- I want to believe that this country rewards perseverance, talent and hard work -- things that Taylor has definitely shown in his life. The added fact that I dig his kind of music motivates me even more to root for him.

In the meantime, I will continue to look forward to seeing his performances !

BUT THIS SHOULD NOT CLOUD MY EMHASIS -- If this show wants to dispel credibility doubts, IT MUST HAVE AN INDEPENDENT, RECOGNIZED, TRUSTED AUDITOR WHO CAN VOUCH FOR THE NUMBERS.

I have no idea if this is legit or not, but I have suspected every single thing this person said, with the notable exception of Bo being the actual winner. I think they had pimped Carrie so bad by that point that she could have easily won on her own.

If this person isn't an insider then he/she's defintely been hanging out at the Grassy Knoll message board over at Television Without Pity, where all of this has been theorized for years, including the powers that be screwing with the phone lines. I personally don't care, because I never felt they had to lie about vote totals because of all the blatant manipulation they do during the actual show. It's just getting more obvious.

I also don't think it's any faker than any other reality show. They pick contestants they can mold into characters, like "the rocker," "the ditzy country singer," "the diva," etc... All we know about these people is what they choose to show us, so most of the time the ones they show the most of are the ones who make it to the top 12. Your Elliott's and your Bucky's have to work twice as hard to get noticed, because we barely hear about them before the top 24. They mold heroes and villians (Savol, Trias..) It actually follows a pretty good narrative arc.

That said, who cares? The show still entertains the hell out of me.

*Cheesy gossip alert* A couple of years ago my friend's sister worked with Ryan Seacrest at 98.7 in LA, and we insisted she find out if he was gay, because we were bored college students with nothing better to do. She's said he's "not gay, just a manwhore." Take this as you will :)

Amen to that. They need an Auditor.

I'm hoping that next week we get the G-bomb. It's TIME for Taylor to unload on all of those doubters. Randy will finally get some Ray like he's been wanting.

Don't you thing Taylor is saving the "G-Bomb" for finals? It would just plain blow away Chris, no matter what he tried to scream sing.
