There is one huge problem with Nashville Star. They have never produced a really successful winner. Buddy Jewel, the first winner, has only done moderately well. All of the other winners have bombed big time.

There's more than one problem with Nashville Star. It hasn't been, however, for a lack of talent. The problem is that they've picked the wrong winners the last two years. The NS2 winner went to a crossover pop singer. The guy that should have won, George Canyon, would have been a flat out star, properly promoted. He's doing okay, anyway, with a couple of albums out, but better promotion would have helped a great deal.

Last year was loaded with talent, but the judges wanted a woman to win, and they jumped on the Erica Jo bandwagon.

This year has gone down in production value (it wasn't that great to begin with), and I don't see it lasting much longer. The talent's there, but it's no fun to watch.

My brother graduated from Auburn. (1994) I didn't know about the teachers but all the students did seem to lean right. I graduated from AUM and it leaned to the right as well and most of my teachers did too. I just started this semester in graduate school with UAB and the schools are night and day. UGH. I can see the young skulls full of mush just soaking in some of the garbage. :) My husband and I and our family moved to the area a year ago and I haven't gotten a chance to see all I would like to in the area, but I know some of the students in my class are Taylor fans. I think he performs more down South though.

WAR EAGLE!

I can't figure out why they put on the same night as AI. By the time it's on I'm reality-singing-showed-out

I think most of us would agree that two of the bottom singers are Lisa and Bucky. I think they both will be going in the next two weeks.

The week after they go, could be interesting.

Who would you put in the 3rd from the bottom spot?

That's exactly what happened last night!

We caught the last half hour of Nashville Star, and I kept dozing off the last half of AI and flat missed the last performance.

Woke up 5 minutes too late! Soooo weird.

After this week's performances, I would have Mandisa and McPhee tied for 3rd from bottom. Honestly, they both screeched so much I had to turn the sound down.

Boy, ain't that the truth. So far, though, she's been a total flop.

(re McPhee) There's something strange about that girl, although I can't put my finger on it.

KATHARINE MCPHEE: IS SHE A SCIENTOLOGIST?

Katharine McPhee
Katharine McPhee and Tom Cruise's fiancée, Katie Holmes, both sport brunette hair and a beautiful smile. And like Holmes, the 21-year-old Idol favorite from Sherman Oaks, Calif., may have her own connection to the Church of Scientology, according to the watchdog Web site truthaboutscientology.com! They claim that a "Katharine McPhee" was listed in a December 2005 issue of Celebrity — the magazine of the Church's Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles — as having previously completed their Purification Rundown Procedure and Overcoming Ups and Downs In Life Course.

PURE? NOT SURE!
According to the Web site, "When Scientologists complete a course... their names are typically listed in [the magazine]." And the controversial church — established by the late sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard — has raised many eyebrows within the mainstream medical community over its Purification Rundown Procedure, in which an individual ingests cooking oil and massive doses of niacin while sitting in a sauna for extended periods, in order to break down "the biochemical barrier to spiritual gain."

THE NAME'S THE SAME
So are Idol's Katharine McPhee and the individual listed in the Scientology report one and the same? National records indicate there is only one Katharine McPhee in the entire U.S. — in Sherman Oaks!

However, a family friend who spoke to Idol's McPhee at Star's request reports: "Katharine says she is not a Scientologist." But the friend does not say whether McPhee has ever been one in the past. If not, she might want to reconsider, judging by a description of the benefits of completing the Church's Overcoming Ups and Downs In Life Course: "Now you can spot what — and who — is causing things to go wrong in your life and recognize your friends. Now you can correctly tell who to trust — and listen to — before it's too late." Hmm... sounds like the perfect method for dealing with Simon Cowell!

I know what you mean. I keep forgetting to set my DVD to record it, but would watch it on another day and time

BTW, retrokitten, the rumor is that the AI theme next week will be country. It's only a rumor, though, we'll have to wait until tonight or tomorrow to get the official word.

I wish it would be Paris. But I wouldn't put any money on it. This week there were more that were bottom 3 material. Could be anybody but Chris, Taylor, or Kellie. Not that I thought they did that great, but I'm betting their core fans are too large to let them be in the bottom 3 until we get to 6 or fewer contestants.

There were a lot of so-so's last night. I think the volume button got a good workout! :) Based on last night, I'd put Katharine in the 3rd from bottom spot. Based on all the weeks, I'd put Ace in the 3rd from bottom spot.

Thanks for allowing me to rant.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

As far as having to choose current music, I'm wondering if they could've chosen something this-century from the Stones, Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, etc.

Taylor Hicks is a little bit Jagger, a little bit Elvis, a little bit Joe Walsh, and a real lot like Eddie Money on stage. When he plays the medium-size venues and casino venues, he'll be immensely popular.

If you like the adventurous Old West, this musical’s for you.

Cabrillo Musical Theater’s "Annie Get Your Gun" is a comedic love story that will take you back to the Wild West with a few unexpected turns along the way.

Annie Oakley (Katharine McPhee), is a rugged rifle-toting woman who takes on a challenge against proud world champion Frank Butler (Kevin Bailey), and quickly outguns the star shooter of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.

Do you happen to know how to find out if someone won an award for their performance in a musical?

Should she even be in AI this year? Isn't she already beyond AI????
