Has there been a song as good as “Whole Lotta Love” or “Ramble On” by Zeppelin, or “Back in Black” by AC/DC done in the last 15 years. Not even close.

The song "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down popped into my head. I think that's a great rock song. Maybe no virtuoso instrumental performances there, but very solid with good lyrics (positive message). Bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters are still clinging to rock roots. (I believe that the guitar-solo-driven songs have had their day. Maybe that's the sound you are pining for).

Rock as a genre has been overshadowed by rap/hip hop for too long now. Maybe it's time for a revival, all things being cyclical.

It was a rhetorical question : ) It would be interesting to see how the show is regulated and how much flexibility the producers have in manipulating the results. I wouldn't doubt that the wool is being pulled over a lot of eyes some of the time... : )

Do you happen to know when "What If" came out? A friend of mine said it came out in 1999. Just curious. Your wrap ups get better each week. :)

I thought DialIdol was not doing that anymore. Didn't AI shut them down or something?

They were down just short of a week I think. They were back for last Tuesday's show. Their numbers have been getting posted from last week and now this week.

I think they just changed their logo or something.

Part of the fun of American Idol is seeing who grows from the experience and who deteriorates.

My favorite stage of AI is the original auditions, when we get to see them "straight off the farm", before fame gets hold and egos get bloated.

So many seem to be turning into puff pastry, while a couple others are devloping from fuzzy photos into high definition pros.

He was the best last night. Maybe not by a mile, but definitely the best. I don't know how the judges could say that increasingly creepy McPhee was the best. Yuck!

Yeah, I don't understand that either. They always fall all over her with praise. 'You're a star!' I don't know who picks her songs or her clothes, but, maybe they should swap jobs for a week or so.

I keep forgetting the name of the AI-style rock show from a few months ago, but even the losers on there were better than what Chris did last night.

Wasn't there a show with Gene Simmons from Kiss? Is that what you mean? I never watched it, just saw it listed. There might be others out there, too, but, your post made me think of that one.

LOL! Maybe that would work, but they also need to do something about her weird facial expressions.

The show I was thinking about was Rockstar INXS from about six months ago. I watched it only a couple of times, but it wasn't bad.

What would prevent AI from manipulating the results of DialIdol by having more lines available for certain contestants?

Hmmmmm...

Rough night.

Taylor--Honestly, the only performance that I'd care to listen to.

Elliott--Finally some life in the boy.

Paris--Thought she did a good job with that.

Katharine--Hate Aguilera. That type of singing is the vocal equivalent of a circus contortionist, somewhat interesting but ultimately pointless. McPhee did it pretty well though.

Chris--Keepin on keepin on. Getting tired of it, but he's still doing it well.

Mandisa--Too much yelling.

Ace--a'right

Bucky--a'right

Lisa--For some reason her performance is always worse than the sum of its parts.

Kellie--Suffers from being the only contestant whose song I'd heard before. I don't think she was singing it that much slower than Sara Evans, but it seemed a lot slower. Drained the life out of that song.

Lisa will probably get voted off tonight, but I'd rather it be the Gerkhin.

There is one huge problem with Nashville Star. They have never produced a really successful winner. Buddy Jewel, the first winner, has only done moderately well. All of the other winners have bombed big time.

You're right. I wish they had made the show 90 minutes instead of just an hour. 2 hours with less people would have been long with a bunch of fluff for filler, but an hour was much too short.

Wonder if the auction is over already? I've never participated in their live auctions.

Neither have I. Taylor seems to be a really nice person though. I do think he has some conservative values in him, Auburn Univ. where he went to school tends to lean to the right. Last night they had some more of his "Soul Patrol" fans on the local news and some of his friends and just the comments made about him leads me to believe he's genuine. Just wish I had gone to see him locally before he goes and gets famous on us. :)

I missed Taylor by a several years. I fiished up at Auburn in late 1990. He came on to the scene in the mid to late 90's if I remember correctly.

BTW, Auburn students lean heavily right. Auburn faculty is a whole other story...:-)
