I've never read Holt. It sounds, though, as if his humor is to the opera what Douglas Adams' humor was to reality; tweaking things with which we have familiarity "just so", so that they strike us from a new and uproariously funny direction.

If you like Adams or Pratchett you will like Holt.
Be warned though Holt can be a bit uneven in his quality. Some of his books are funny and well written. Others are just a series of one liners.
