Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

I glanced at it briefly. I don't particularly like the super skinny supermodel type...I like a woman with more meat on her bones, generally.

Yeah, some of them jumped. They reminded me a lot of saltwater carp, only gray in color instead of gold.

Being sick from alcohol for hours is no fun at all. I haven't been drunk in years. Just a little high.

Mostly good groups, don't know much about new age beyond Spira Gyra and Vangelis though, but I like those too. I do like most things except rap and hip-hop.

I have a liking for Klaus Nomi too, his combination of synth-pop and caberet style makes him look like he walked out of the 1926 German silent film, "Metropolis." I also like al ot of Burth Bacharach and the "lounge lizard" music that pervaded the late 1960's and early 1970's. Herb Alpert and Rupert Holmes are top on my list too.

Smart! Very smart.

My big problem was that I had a ulcer that made me sick. Got rid of the ulcer a few years back and didn't drink at all until February of this year.

Its a whole different feeling drinking now. I can handle it much better than I used to be able to.
