I know what you mean. I was losing about four pounds each week but I had no energy at all. I'm going to start out with 2000 calories to start. I'm also going to stay with the weights to make sure I don't lose the muscle this time.

I wouldn't worry about the BMI. Get your body fat percentage checked out.

You're added! It's taken me about six months, but I am a slow loser. I think LA Weight Loss has you buy their food, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I've had several of the epidurals and they've helped immensely. Unfortunately I irritated it again in the step class (thought that I was cute and tried a crunch on the floor) so I'm waiting to see my orthopeodic doc for another epidural.

It is finally getting warm (almost hot) here in SC and GA. I'm going to start road riding in the next couple of weeks. My goal is to be under 200 by Memorial Day (currently ~215-220).

One comment that I wanted to add was about actual weight loss. I try not to get on the scale except once a month or so for a spot check. I generally determine if I am loosing weight by how well my clothes fit or not.

One motivation I got from another support group is to dig out an older pair of pants (or skirt) that you haven't worn in a while. Pull them up as far as they will go. Then, every week or two, try again until you can get them on.

This helps with low carb diets especially because you may not loose overall body weight in your first couple of weeks, but your clothes should start fitting better.

I usually saved them up for the weekend as well. Last year I started with 30 points a day and got down to 22. That was way too little for me in retrospect. I'm going to start with 40 this year and then go from there. I want to leave some room so I can cut down if hit a plateau.

I doubled my exercise from one a day to twice a day, but made no difference. This is probably just unique to a few of us.

I've read a number of studies here and in England that indicated that watching TV leads to weight gain. They say we use up less calories watching TV than just by sitting in a chair.

No gain is a good week! LOL Sometimes our bodies just aren't ready to give it up yet then it comes off in one big woosh.

Dieting is important but I believe exercise is even more so.

What works is what we all know works -- eat less and exercise more. In my 20's and 30's, I could do one or the other. Now, at 43 and as a busy Mom of two, I have to do both.

I write down EVERYTHING I eat and the calorie count. Try to stay in the 1200-2000 range (I know it's a wide range, but after a 2000 day, I try to have a 1200 day . . .). Just being aware works for me. If I'm up to 1200 and it's only noon, I know I have to think salads for lunch and dinner!

Used to like those diet bars (Zone, etc.), but I find that once I start, I eat them like candy. Can no longer have them in the house. Will buy one when out running around as a treat only. DO NOT GET THEM AT A WAREHOUSE STORE (the price is right but the temptation is unbearable).

Found a gym I like and do a "body pump" class 3 days/week. That's weight training for entire body done to music in a group setting. Works for me, since I like the music and the competition. Also like a little muscle definition. Have never been able to do an exercise video at home. My "off" days (at least 2 week, sometimes 3) are for cardio. Try to do at least 30 minutes (and, ideally, 60 minutes) of walking, treadmill, elliptical trainer, soccer or biking with the kids, etc. Have always hated running, but it did take the pounds off when I was younger.

A trick I like is to get books on tape from the library and listen while doing cardio. Don't let myself listen to the tapes except when exercising. If you are an avid "reader" it's motivation for those non-motivated days.

Since Christmas, have lost 10 lbs (high of 146.5 on medium frame -- yucky on me) and would like to lose another 10 before bathing suit season.

Good luck -- it takes work. If it were easy, we'd all look like supermodels.

Agreed. I don't know how anyone does it without exercise.

"I don't know the science of it, but doesn't stress and arguing and negativity set off all kinds of chemical processes that affect weight, eating patterns, etc.?"

YES. It totally amazed me, with all the smarts these people on these threads have, that they can get pulled into an argument, like they didn't have a clue about anything. Being smart, is equal to, not getting tricked into entering the demented world of arguing. NO ONE WINS in a situation like that. Both sides are demeaned...

When folks ask me how I lost weight I always emphasize the word AND when I tell them diet AND exercise.

I was a fitness instructor, but quit 3 years ago. Biggest mistake of my life. I find I need a group or some other type of accountability factored in to my strategy. If I'm "going it alone" I don't have the motivation.
