How would you describe Iraq? Is the weather like Tuscon's weather?

Baghdad is mostly pleasant in the winter except for when it rains and everything becomes a mudpit. That sucked when I was living out in the desert in '04 and part of '05. Now I'm in the center of the city and things are paved here. Northern Iraq gets snow in the winter.

Summers are....hell. Hot, up to 130-ish and very dry. No rain at all in the summer months. Not even any clouds.

And I'm kind of getting used to it.

"It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

"Hit it!!!"

Thanks. I've heard little about the cradle of civilization until now. I've read about the desert spiders in National Geographic. And I've heard about the heat but I had nothing to peg it in my mind.

After your short post, it makes me appreciate the reason why so many cultures spread out and conquered from that epicenter: They were trying to escape the heat! haha
