In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Hobson's choice \HOB-suhnz-CHOIS\, noun:
A choice without an alternative; the thing offered or nothing.
Example sentence:
Fagan's defense revolves around his insistence that he faced a Hobson's choice and had to act.
-- Laura Parker, "Discovery of daughters never followed by reunion," USA Today, May 11, 1999
Etymology: The origin of the term Hobson's choice is said to be in the name of one Thomas Hobson (ca. 1544-1631), at Cambridge, England, who kept a livery stable and required every customer to take either the horse nearest the stable door or none at all.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

GMac at the buzzer with 3 pointers both days to keep them alive. he isn't ready for his college hoops career to be over just yet.

Hey, we just picked up Brendan Witt from y'all. Woo-hoo! What do you think of that guy? We needed a defenseman and too many of our guys are on IR right now.
oh he is a delightful thug! sorry we lost him. Alex Ovechkin was interviewed this week on the radio and it was hilarious, he is BARELY intelligible! the rock station DJ is a HUGE hockey fan and he had him on and he couldn't really ask any followups bc i knew he didn't understand much of what alex said, he just kept going to the next question!
He'll be like our dear Darcy Hordichuk, who lives to get under the other guy's skin. He is actually pretty charming and cute in person.
Thanks for asking--he's got a little jaundice, which, apparently, is common in newborns. Otherwise, he's eating everything in sight (okay, there are only two things in sight, but he's eating both of them) and doing fine.
I am rooting for Rutger's to beat Villanova in the next game only because my best friend was a cheerleader at Rutger's.
Oh good. Have mom let him nap near a window. Sunlight helps break down the bilirubin if she strips him down to get some rays.
we had to have at least one of ours in the windowbox for sunshine for jaundice!
Oh thank you! YAY!
PMS ALERT
(You have been warned)
Home and just started dinner-
Just look at queen Hillary
And hear her demanding voice
She thinks the 'rat party
Will consider her a Hobson's choice
That may very well be true
But I'm sure there can be found
Some delegates who'd rather vote
For someone better all around
Rather than the queen of mean
Who still enables X42
In all his many dishonest schemes
Which he'd make her continue to do
Happy birthday!
Oh, I just love the PMS lady! Now if we could only find Mr. Spanky again in cyberspace...
Hi! Got the Hobson's choice of gettng to work or lifetime of unemployed FReeping.
You found her! Granny in da hood!
Very nice. A+ for you.
You nailed it. A for you Moochie!
