"Without any announcements so far, the spring release is impossible," Takasu said in an interview with Bloomberg Japan yesterday. "We are developing titles for PlayStation 3, but the release of the games depends on the timing of the hardware."

There's also
this:
Sony's new PlayStation 3 was widely expected to be introduced this spring, but will be delayed as the company fine-tunes the chips that are crucial to the success of the console's Blu-ray function.
The PlayStation 3 --- which is being called "the poor man's Blue-ray" --- is vital to Sony's plans because it plays Blu-ray discs as well as videogames.
Sony will roll out the PS3 by year end, in time for the holidays. If PS3 "delivers what everyone thinks it will, the game is up," Stringer boasts.
I've only seen this referenced one place, though, so I don't know if that's just the author being a little creative in interpreting what Stringer said.

Ouch. With the XBox360 being out for a year by then, Sony will have a lot of ground to catch up on. I don't know if I can continue waiting for a PS3, or if I'll have to break down now and buy a 360.

your screen name reminds me of a crazy liberal manager i once had, he used to write to people "you are sofa king we todd id".
he was later fired for sexual harassment, (not on me of course)...

Gates is getting played by his own rules. He's the one who used to suffocate competitors with vaporware teases that strung along would-be buyers and thus stifled demand for the competing product.
But we will find out some day that the PS3 was NEVER going to be ready any earlier than 3Q2006, and Sony has been misleading the market to preclude XBOX 360 purchases. "Oh, next month, definitely...."

When I first heard "spring 06", I understood that meant June of 2006 at the earliest. I am in no hurry to buy a PS3 because my tv will only go 480P or 1080i and it can't take full advantage of the new technology. I haven't looked into whether my computer monitor can't handle 1080P yet.

Your TV might be able to convert 1080p to 1080i.

You might be right about MS getting played, but if Sony is shooting straight - and they may not be - if their still "fine tuning" their chip that means that they haven't even begun production yet. Given the demand in Japan, then the US, and then Europe, it will take months just to get up enough supplies. I guess they could be ready by Q3 06, but they'd have to be near the very precipice of completing their testing and tuning.

My tv can get screen burn in too so I wouldn't use it for video games. I bought it on Labor Day, 2000. Mitsubishi 55 widescreen. It's been a very reliable tv.
