1. It was not PC, i.e., they don't have a token woman on the Special Forces team, etc.
2. They weren't shy about portraying the terrorists as Moslem.
3. There was a comment made on the show that "If it's on the news it's not true and if it's true it's not on the news," or something to that effect.
4. Producer Shawn Ryan also produces The Shield, which is definitely not a PC show.
5. I like Dennis Haysbert a lot better on this show than as the President on 24. He's very convincing in The Unit.
I really recommend the show. Any other comments?
I have it on TiVO so haven't seen it yet. I'm pleased to read your observations. I grow very weary of PC on TV ;)
Oops, I was watching The Shield instead while taping some Animal Planet stuff for the kids.
Haven't watched network TV for years. If their shows don't make news headlines, I couldn't name any of them
Never even heard about this one til now.
I think 24 killed off ex-President Palmer so he could star in it.
Great show -- it held my interest and showed the military in a good light. I hope it continues.
I also was impressed by the fact that the terrorists were muslim -- not like the "Sum of All Fears" muslim turned White Nazi terrorist crap they pulled. I really thought Tom Clancy sold out on that one. Pure garbage.
Where I live, the Shield comes on at 10:00 and 11:00. The unit came on at 9:00.
There's no truth in the news and no news in the truth!
I thought the show was pretty cool until the last scene. Hollywood just had to include a soap opera twist where the Colonial is in bed with one of his recruits wife. That is tipical HW crap that eventually kills this kind of show.
I loved it and think it's going to be something that we totally need on TV nowadays. It breaks the monotony of all the twisted shows out there that have no morals and teach terrible values.
I love that this show seems (for the most part) PRO-military and talks about the job these men are doing to protect OUR FREEDOMS. I wanted to cry when they said that.
I also think the whole, not allowed to watch the news thing was funny and true. My husband hates watching the news for that same reason. THERE IS NO NEWS IN TRUTH AND NO TRUTH IN NEWS!! LOL
Great show and one I'll be watching regularly.
soap opera twist
They had me interested up until the ending.....
I really liked it up until the very end where we see that the commander is sleeping with the wife of one of his men that he keeps sending out on long assignments.
The Colonel was in bed with the wife [blond] of the special ops guy [the one that laser designated that target in Afghanistan] whom, it seems he "frequently" sends out on missions.
I watched it, since it follows one of my favorites -- NCIS.
It was okay. The agencies-jurisdiction issue was a bit heavy.
I didn't know the same producer also is producer of The Shield -- another favorite. The season finale is supposed to be good -- am looking forward to a Makey-Kavanaugh showdown.
Oh, great. I was a little distracted during the show and couldn't keep the characters straight. I thought everyone was with his own wife. That's disappointing.
Watched it. Thought it was quite good, but will reserve judgment until a few more episodes have aired.
I liked it!
Except for the last part, and the wife of the new guy (not sure of names) was getting on my nerves.
The desperate housewives aspect of it, is valid. I know a number of families in this area, that have similar lives...the costs and pressures of having a spouse/parent in this business, is/can be, devastating.
Dang it. I was hoping this was going to be a bad show that they would have to cancel quickly and then move the Amazing Race back to 9pm. Guess I'll have to keep recording the Race to watch when I'm still awake.
