The company says many people mishear lyrics because they are suffering from "consonant loss", an early sign of hearing loss.
Or maybe the singers can't or won't enunciate properly and they sing with all sorts of godawful racket going on anyway.

You guys have me laughing my eyes out! Didn't the "Guess Who" do a song about that? These Eyes?

"With a purple umbrella and a fifty cent hat," First time I heard it I thought it was "With a purple umbrella and a fist in her hair."
And why don't radio DJs ever break up those two songs?
Why does "Living Loving Maid" always follow "Heartbreaker"?
So they can take an extended butt break?

Manfred Mann and til this day I still sing that the wrong way when I hear it. I don't think my mouth could form the word 'deuce' there if there was a gun to my head.

One more I've fallen for:
England Dan and John Ford Cowley with " I'm not talkin' 'bout the linen" from their "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight".
I still swear that's what they are singing.

Hmmm. My advice to women, is if a guy comments about your linen, move on.

Creedence..."there's the bathroom on the right".Fogerty was on Austin City Limits last Saturday. He sung one chorus of Bad Moon very deliberately as "bathroom on the right" and pointed to stage right. He's in on the joke.

I saw Hendrix play twice, 1968 and 1969. Both times he pointed to Noel Redding as he sang the line, "Scuse me, while I kiss this guy"

Any idea who was in the band? I tried several searches, and found at least three similarly named bands, each of which was not the one. :')

Lou Christie... "Lightning striking again and again and again..."
About twenty years ago I saw him in an oldies show (about five different oldies artists on the bill) and he was still hitting those notes. He couldn't bow though, because of his paunch. ;') Luckily I haven't developed a similar problem. ;') ;')

Thanks MotleyGirl70 for that tidbit about Livin Lovin Maid. I always wondered what Plant was talking about, so I just looked up the lyrics. :')You're welcome :)
I had a feeling it would be of interest to some FReepers.
To: Cagey
Not a chartbuster? Whaaaat?!? Okay, yeah, you're right. :') The band was a one-hit wonder, with a hit that wasn't all that huge. It remains however a really big favorite, and is on my list of quintessential psychedelia (Strawberry Alarm Clock "Incense and Peppermints" is also on that list; the Nazz "Open My Eyes" is also somewhere on there).

"Then, December '68...Hot Smoke was released. I.A., fat and dumb,...had a HIT on their hands. Consider the song scope- Hot Smoke was No. 1 across the globe for two months. This is NO joke, I was there, I saw the numbers. Name a country, any country-No. 1, 8 weeks! Why not number one in America? True tales are best."
