The one I'd personally recommend is Slax.

It's under 200MB, can be burned onto a CD-R, and with MySlax Creator is rather highly (and often fairly easily) customizable using modules.

Though Knoppix and Mepis are both good choices as well.

If you use Windows, you'll need something to record the ISO (cd image) to the CD burner (e.g. Nero, Roxio, ISORecorder)

I haven't gotten into Ubuntu--or any of the Debian-based distributions. Maybe it's because I'm biased toward Slackware...

Though because I have siblings that occasionally use my computer, I have openSuSE installed.

I was a Mandrake/RedHat user for years, though I started to become unhappy with RedHat with v7. The main home machine is now Suse 10.

The PDA, now, is Debian-based.

We did that a couple of weeks ago. He's shorter than average for his weight, which made him very thick around the middle! We're using either size 2 diapers (14-18) or size 1-2 (12-16), depending on what brand is on sale.

The main home machine is now Suse 10.

That's what mine is--starting with 10.0, Suse devel is done by OpenSuse.

It was a pain getting it to load--I discovered the 10.0 GM Disc 5 iso I downloaded was cracked--the install froze at the hardware config--and SaX2 didn't work well.

So, I had to reinstall 9.3 with a minimal KDE, set all the hardware and upgrade to Suse 10.0. Then, go back and install the rest of KDE, GNOME, etc. manually via YaST repository.

I guess I was lucky then. 10.0 went pretty smoothly. 9.1, on the other hand...

Greetings!

I'm working hard today. My boss is out of the area, so I've taken the opportunity to paw through his files and try to get them organized. I'm exhausted now.

Howdy, y'all! We have Washington-like weather here this week, 40's and drizzle.

I was started on Suse 9.1 a year ago this past January.

Of course, this was when I had the university laptop, and the Math & CS dept. was able to install the dual-boot image onto the computer (via Ghost).

I reinstalled 9.1 after a Windows crash--went smoothly, as well as the FTP install for 9.2, and the first installs of 9.3 on the laptop also went without a hitch.

My installs of 9.3 on my "new" computer failed to load the bootsplash--so I had the GNU GRUB text boot menu, as well as the startup and shutdown init scripts--there was a graphic at the login. Though, 10.0 has the nice image at the GRUB menu and at login, the inits are still visible--oh well.

I had to go to the doctor this morning, and took him out in three layers of clothes and a knit hat.

I thought I'd just wait and see how long it took for folks to post today. At this rate, we'll never get to 10,000 by April...

Maybe I should have pinged (pung?) everyone this morning...?
