The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Just getting a Shrimp-Crab Casserole out of the oven.

mmmmm...can you hold dinner about 8 hours? I'll bring a nice bottle of wine...

Don't think I can put it off for much longer. We may gnaw our hands off! Thanks for the reminder about the wine. SirKit has some 'Silver Lake' Reisling that he likes and I've got a nice Chilean 'El Portillo' Sauv Blanc.

He chewed the chew bone for awhile, and he's played a bit with the tennis balls. I took him out and tried to play fetch, but he was getting frustrated by the long lead - it'll work better once we've got the fence done and he can just run free. He's funny, though - rather than charging up to the ball and just grabbing it, he pushes it around for awhile and *then* brings it back. I suppose that's herding behavior, though it's hard to tell with such a small object. ;-)

He also has a rope bone, but doesn't seem to have any interest in that. Surprised me a little, as that was the favorite toy for our older dogs - they'd get *nasty*, they got played with so much, and then we'd stick 'em through the wash. Maybe once he understands it's a toy, he'll play with it more...again, that'll probably be once I have a yard.

Also ran around and around with him this evening. I think I got more tired than he did, but he's staying put in the house, so I guess he's at least somewhat worn out...

He also got one of those nifty Petsmart collar tags - they have a machine that etches them right there. First time I've seen one of those.

Just went to take Cisco out one last time and Cartman was sitting on my front porch again. He tried to smack Cisco and was really ticked off when I shooed him away. He's under the house now, I think.

Thinks he owns the place, he does. ;-)

Name, address, phone number.

I probably should have just put his name and my phone number - it came out in pretty tiny print. On the other hand, the address isn't a bad thing to have on there.

You are welcome to come out to Colorado any time you want this summer. However, I won't be there and I doubt anyone else will either. Sorry about the inconvenience... but I selfishly made other plans and cancelling them now would be just rude ;-)

No problem :)

I was debating whether I would be sending my regrets or bringing another guest :D

You might have noticed I set her up with a FRname (CareL) and hope she eventually uses it; I think she'd like y'all as much as I do. Trouble is she ha-a-a-ates the computer except insofar as it has been the instrument of our "meeting"*, and will not come here without me physically alongside.

*We haven't met in person, yet. I intend to rectify this by NLT Easter weekend.

*Sigh*

What's a cat to do when her human wants to sleep in Saturday morning?

She claws some human face.

Mornin' folkses!

trini's having a birthday party at her house for her oldest daughter in a few hours. I've got to wrangle up the kids and get to the store.

Oh, and speaking of birthdays....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, G'NAD!

I need help; it's time to get a new computer!

Do any of you guys who know more about them than I do have a recommendation? Brand, operating system, etc.?

Right now we're using an old Dell, which has been pretty good, but just can't keep up any more. Daughter thinks we ought to change to a MAC, but it could be a problem changing some of the software over, like Quickbooks.

Our Dell has been good, but I constantly hear horror stories about 'em.

Any ideas much appreciated.

BBL

I'm not by any means a computer expert, Sam - but I'd stick with Dell / Windows. :-)

BTW, did you see the pics from the Everglades when Ramius was here visiting? I was hoping you could positively identify the snake we saw.
