The Hobbit Hole XXVIII - Through shadows to the edge of night
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 02/24/2006 9:52:11 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Through shadows to the edge of night

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

So, I neglected to tell this story...

We wuz sittin' down to dinner Thursday night when the doorbell rang. This teenager was there and he goes into this long (vey long) story about how he lives just across from the pool (funny he didn't look like the Hispanic family that ~does~ live there).

But he tells me he received this special honor, but that the trip to England wasn't paid for. He, of course, was going to England to be the new star of the American version of "Fawlty Towers."

He asked me if I knew who John Cleese was, I said "of course."

He said, "Alright, high five."

I said, "I don't think so..."

Bottom line is he was selling magazines. We didn't buy any.

I figger if John Cleese ~really~ wants him, he could spring for airfare.

Now that's a unique story.... not a very good one, but different.

He gets points for creativity. However, he gets squat for magazine sales.

In other news, Jr. and I declared a truce. Actually, he surrendered. ;-)

I held my ground. Told him he didn't have to like me or love me, but he did have to respect me. He finally apologized around 11:00.

Huh? Now there's a story I hadn't heard.

Creative fella. Gotta give him that. ;-)

And congrats on Jr's surrender. One battle at a time, Master Dwarf. One battle at a time.

Hurt

[Originally by Nine Inch Nails]

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hold
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

[Chorus:]
What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Morning OT - cast your eyes skyward this morning, a rare treat is in store. The cheverons of Canada geese are in full flight. They are heading northward to their nesting grounds that are still covered in snow and ice. The ritual continues as it has for eons. Their faint honking drifts downward, alerting us all that they are leaving for awhile, but as the leaves turn colors in the fall they will return. It is their place in the ebb and flow of the seasons.

...and the finches are starting to turn yellow.

Yellowface is out today although we could use some more rain. Hmmmm....guess I should get a rainguage.

Think I'll plant some more seeds and pot up some pepper plants.
