Heh!

The storm that is heading this way is in the OKC area now...to the southwest of Tulsa about an hour and a half.

I just read this over on the Natrc web site. I think this was being discussed here last week, but I don't know if you all have heard this.

I spoke to a representative of the TAHC this morning to find out about this required registration of property if you have livestock. This is what I found out.

The original proposal has been "shot down". As of now, all registration is strictly voluntary and there is no fee. If you own more than one place which has stock, you only register one. Requiring all owners of livestock to register their property will not be reviewed again until the (Texas) council meets which will PROBABLY be sometime next year. There is a 35 member council of "equine experts" (national level) which will "hash out" suggested requirements for eqines to the FDA sometime in the future. His guess was 1 - 3 yrs. Remember the time frame was a guess on the rep's part.

I did express my opinion that I did not think people who owned livestock which were not intended for consumption should be required to register.

So for now, everyone can breathe a big sigh of relief.

This was posted just after the other one by the same person

Just wanted to clarify two items from my earlier post.

It is the Texas council which will not review the proposal until they meet again, PROBABLY next year.

The 35 member council of "experts" is on a national level.

If you have questions, you can go to the TACH website or call 1-800-550-8242.

Interesting.... thanks. I guess I foresee the future optimistically, the requirements as were proposed would have flooded them with so much unnecessary information, and been too much of a burdon for people to comply with. I just don't see it happening.

I'm in having a snack before heading back over to work on Rosie's fence.

Boy, I'm glad to hear that! It would've been a nightmare if it went into effect as it was written.

I stopped by the feed store today to pick up a bale of hay. I've had to lock the horses in their runs:(. When I went out back the other day to catch Harley I noticed they had started eating on trees. I'm 99% sure it's just boredom. There was nothing out there till this week. I'm not sure when they started doing it, but I want to make sure there is plenty of forage out there before I turn them loose again. I am planning on seeding/fertilizing any way in April.

Anyway, all that to say the feed store is out of our local hay. Has been for quite some time. I didn't know that. They are suppose to get some blue stem in tomorrow, shipped in from somewhere. No telling what a bale is going to cost now. I just like giving them a flake or two a day when they have to be locked up 24/7.

I guess the drought has really affected the hay production around here:(

Bummer about the hay! Apparently there's a lot of people who are in a world of hurt because of the drought. I sure hope y'all get more rain this year!

I have no idea why we do that. When a storm is brewing on the Gulf I start cleaning. My house was shining when I thought Emily was going to blow in.

Well, we made some more progress today on fence, but didn't really photograph that :~\

But we did bring Cisco over to introduce him to our dogs, horses, and electric fences, all at once :~D

I think he and Homer will play real well when given the chance. Gidget doesn't really play well with anybody...

I chalk it up to a combination of trying to maintain a sense of control and nervous energy.
