This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That's exactly the way it is:). If the cat is loose Susie always lands up under the couch whining and the cat sitting there calmly cleaning her face:) BUT every once in awhile Susie has gotten hold of the cat and I'm afraid she would do major damage. So poor the poor cat gets locked up when I bring her. I only brought her this time because we spent most of the time outside.

Wow, when I saw the first picture I thought "Boy, that horse must be really small", but then I saw your niece on the same horse and the I thought "Boy, Bob must be really tall!" It's funny how people in the picture change your perspective. Great pics! Thanks!
Well we weren't laughing in a negative way at you, just that it's so funny how different people sound from different parts of the country:)
Believe me, you don't sound any more of a redneck then I do:)
Becky
That's kinda scary, especially since you don't know what it was so you can avoid it. I'm glad you had Bob to go with you. Antihistamines are as bad as alcohol sometimes and if you'd been stopped by the law, they don't care what you've been taking for what reason, they'll slap you in jail regardless. I hope you're feeling better today!
LOL! I was right the first time, she IS a really small horse, but that's a good size. She's probably just about right for you.
I should do more of that. Bob has NO patience for standing tied. He just paws and fidgets the whole time, unless he's had the hound rode out of him. I should do more of that too! LOL!
LOL! I didn't figure I did. I've BEEN to Oklahoma before. Y'all sound just like us. But you didn't get a real good dose of my drawl. The big rock videos were a little more representative {cringe}. I wish you coulda seen some of those while you were at Jenny's. Not many horse shots in them, but they were kinda interesting.
They were just talking about this issue on the Natrc thread. I guess some lady was asking what to do about a horse that fidgets and paws, makes alot of noise at night while she is trying to sleep in the trailer. About the only advise that IMO, has been given to her that is any good, is tie the horse up every day for long periods of time. Have a hay net and water available, if it's going to be really long and hot, but other then that the horse just needs to figure out pawing and pacing is not getting him anywhere. Running over to him and petting or trying to "help" is only feeding the behavior. Leave him alone.

Well maybe the next time I'm at Jenny's, (next week:), Hair will repost them:)

Kinda like a crying kid at bedtime I guess. If you just keep running in there, they just keep crying coz they know that sooner or later you'll break and come.
The farrier had to cancel yesterday evening. He left me a voice mail about 3pm saying that he had been called in to some Vet's office to a foundered horse and didn't know how long he would be. I'm glad I decided not to go ahead and pull Bob's shoes off early! I'd kinda had that thought in the back of my head about "What if he couldn't come", because I wanted to ride tomorrow. I'd've been SOL. It's supposed to be some kinda benefit ride for somebody's BIL who's got cancer or something, so there should be a fair turnout. I just hope it doesn't rain. It's been threatening around here since Wednesday night. Some areas just south and east of here have had 4-6 inches of rain in an hour, golfball sized hail, flash flood and tornado warnings. We've been lucky so far. It's kinda iffy today for the same kinda thing. I just hope Bluebell doesn't decide to have her baby during bad weather!
We are having rolling outtages in Central Texas to conserve energy. It sucks because there is no notice and they are picking mostly residential areas.
Here's the link, or if you lose this, I can post it again when you are there...
Hope your weather stays good and you don't end up with a foal named "Stormy" or "Tornado Runner"
Heh, I had a filly named Storm. She's the one that got run over, but I named her after the X-Men Character, not because she was born during a storm. I still like that name and have thought about using it again but I don't know if I should. I only had her for a couple of months.
Well, you can use it for any foal born in a storm I think, if you want. It's a good name, particularly for your blue roans...
Yeah, she was blue, that's why I picked it for her. I got her before I got Bluebell. So if what happened hadn't happened, I wouldn't have had Blade or Bob or Hope. So even though it was really bad at the time, it worked out good in the end.
Very bad at the time. I remember Cav telling me about it when you were still "Lurker Beth".
So sorry.
Make that "feeling"....gheesh!
Got leaving on the mind...hey, that's a song!
Heh, I wish I looked like that!
I wish I at least looked that good in that outfit.
The ability to control the weather would be a pretty good trick, too. Better than just being a big magnet.
