1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.
2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.
3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Chinese and North Korean communists.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical documented changes in the earth's climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV's.
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being homosexual is natural.
7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.
8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about sex.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but loony activists who have never been outside of San Francisco do.
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

Old ships don't reliably displace water. They leak. They leak a lot. They get unpredictable stress fractures that increase logarithmically with time and become dangerous for the crew, as sea worthiness becomes questionable.
The cost of repair and the cost to security of continually pulling the ship out of action to get repairs is greater than the cost of building new.
Most ships are scrapped vice scuttled, yet the scrapper must be paid in excess of the salvage value of the steel, because the labor and cost are so high.
Ships are not scrapped or scuttled with their systems on board. These systems are moved to other ships or become spares.
In short, you are wrong. In every conceivable way of approaching this argument you are wrong. Airplanes and ships are fatigued to a point of general structural failure based on their design and the time of actual flying/sailing that they go through (thus WWII BBs are still young, while a new CVN could be worn out in 10 years if run nonstop). Many military aircraft get G limited as they age for this reason.
This isn't debatable, it is simply fact. It isn't "my" argument, its simply how things are. But if you think the airlines and shipbuilders are wasting their money replacing old equipment, because they like shiny new ones, then please shout it from the roof tops, or you can just put a sign around your neck.
Yeah, Well most of what you say is probably true. But so are my ever increasing "*%&#" Taxes !. And most of them are due to ever increasing STUPID reasons.
Well finally we agree. I never said that the government spends too little money. In fact, I think it spends about 200% more than it should.
Lack of long term commitments by Congress often leads to stupendously expensive military equipment. This is because of large R&D being shared by fewer and fewer items, while programs are kept alive at great cost, but not actively building, in order to save money for that year's budget.
There are a few areas where the decisions are between bad or worse. For example, when the wall fell in 1989 we probably could have mothballed a couple of dozen submarines and not built any more new ones for 15 years. However, without submarines to build, the industry would vanish in 15 years, and we would be faced with starting from scratch, which in turn would be more expensive than building a few subs over that period.
Would you be for scuttling an old carrier if we could fill it up with the tax code and federal spending ideas first? I think a reasonable person could go through the federal budget, eliminate 40-60% of it, and the average person wouldn't notice, except that their wallet would be thicker.
If I deciphered the language you are using correctly, I'd have to say I want no part in knowing what you can visualize
Oop's , posted this just as we found some common ground..........I hate it when this happens
See my post 43.
I did.........see my post #45
Must be anti-baby (or fetus if that term makes you feel better--but it's still a baby)
I think you must of have misread one of satirical posts.
Don't forget the lobotomy.
I sent this to a flaming liberal in my office. He claims to only believe in two of the 21 statements.
You also have to believe that rich people are evil - UNLESS - you work in Hollywood, or your name is Kennedy, Rockefeller, Heinz/Kerry, Soros.
22: Take the Democrats at their word when they pick a dockworker's union dispute to suddenly appear serious about national security, after they have spent three years attacking the President on an "illegal war," "racial profiling," "prison attrocities," and "wiretapping."
Not to be rude Sample, but he asked an honest question about metal fatigue. All of a sudden, suggesting that maybe refitting old ships makes him a liberal? Geeze, get down off the uppers. He didn't know why you couldn't refit them, but he did make it a point to ask. Don't be such an ass...
You have to believe that it is important to protect our privacy rights so that we can make phone calls to known terrorists, but that it's okay for Hillary to read the FBI records of her enemies and rivals.
You have to believe that it is important to protect our privacy rights so that we can anonymously access porn, but that it's okay for the public schools to give our kids questionnaires which ask them in detail abou their sex lives.
You have to believe that high crime in poor neighborhoods is due to the fact that the police don't care and won't arrest the criminals, but that whenever a criminal is arrested, he should not be convicted because he comes from a disadvantaged background.
