A St. Charles woman infected with HIV was arraigned Tuesday afternoon at the St. Charles County Jail as police continued to seek the woman's sex partners, which could number 100, said her mother.
Angela D. Harris, 26, is charged with having unprotected sex with her 42-year-old boyfriend, but detectives believe many people may be at risk based on statements made by Harris' mother, Cathy Lenceski.
Lenceski told police that her daughter has had sex with as many as 100 people in the past four or five years. It is unclear how many of these people may have known that having sex with Harris was potentially exposing them to HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
Lenceski warned Harris' latest boyfriend about her infection in December, after they had been engaged in a sexual relationship for two months, police said. So far, tests on the man have come back negative for the disease. Lenceski told police she feared that her daughter would continue to spread the virus if she wasn't stopped.
On Tuesday, Harris appeared before Judge Jon Cunningham on three felony counts of recklessly risking another person with HIV infection. The charges carry a sentence of 5 to 15 years each count.
Harris made no statements about the charges but filled out paperwork requesting a public defender. She is due back in court today before Judge Terry Cundiff.
Harris discovered she was HIV-positive when she suffered a miscarriage at age 14, police said. Since that time, she has had four children with three different partners and is pregnant again, her mother had said. One of the children, a boy, is HIV-positive, police said.
Police are asking anyone who has had sexual contact with Harris to contact detectives with the St. Charles Police Department at 636-949-3300.

Want to have a deep conversation with your kids or accessible and impressionable kids about sex? Then talk to them about the fact that kids and people, in general, that are most comfortable with their sexually have no grip on reality. Tell them, in so many words, that historically the one comfortable with their sexuality and happens to be very sexually active becomes a loser in life.
This is the case. Just think about your past friends that were of this nature.
Lately, I also happened to come across a study that stated, or suggested, that most successful people have fewer sexual partners, i.e. as they have a grip on reality.
What is hilarious is MTV is all about sex and soft-porn but then they have to balance that out with commercials about getting HIV tested. Losers.
Tell those kids around you not to rush things as there is so much to learn, especially in a committed relationship.
