(Queens-WABC, February 15, 2006) - The search continues for an award winning dog featured at this week's Westminster Dog Show. The $150,000 dog is missing in Queens.

This whippet named "Vivy" got loose at Kennedy Airport about noon. She was being loaded on to a Delta Airlines flight bound for Los Angeles when she reportedly got out of her crate and took off.

She is believed to be in the airport's surrounding area, which covers nearly five thousand acres.

The owner is now making a desperate plea for her prized dog's return.

Beautiful! 4 mos? 3?

My dog is a "Lab" in the goofy-greeting loves-every1 (*insert rolling-eyes emoticon here*) sense, though not at all (phew) in looks!

Of course, animals do really strange things at vets they'd never do otherwise, so I take their comments w/a grain of salt. My sis' big GS Yanto hated the vet and showed it w/teeth and growls who needed to be muzzled. But he was a big dumb teddy bear never a lick of trouble or otherwise "unstable". Likewise, my own Shana hated the vet and showed it w/legs and hair flying everywhere as she tried to escape our grips (great guard dog, but would never harm any1 - growling wasn't in her vocab for non-suspect people). No, she wasn't a coward or nervous outside that venue. :-)

Awww, SWEET!! Very precious pup!

Lots of jokes made on this missing dog, and while, yes, it is *only a dog*, it still deserves some humane treatment. I sure hope someone found it wandering in the cold and took it inside.

She's 4 months old. Her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and on down the line have the German HGH (sheep tending) titles, as opposed to Schutzhund titles. Her sire is a Sch 1. She's just the neatest pup.

We'll definitely do obedience and tracking, and I'd really like to do some work with sheep.

Wow, HGH are rare now! Have been for 80 years. I've seen some true working dogs (not just show-"working"), which seem mostly herders, and they're great old-fashioned dogs. Good luck.

This is the kennel, founded in 1951, from where both her parents came:

There is some of the most beautiful photography on their site.

Oh, I know of them. They're rather famous. Are they basically working dogs? Because the pix on top is of HERDING (non-Schutzhund albeit the original purpose) for a change, rather than attacking (standard SchH requirement).

From what I gather, they specialize in the sheep tending, but they use the best VA Sch3 dogs in their breeding program. My dog goes back to Rikkor, to name one that comes to mind. Their breeding females get V ratings, as a rule, so they do keep conformation in mind, which is not a bad thing, as long as temperament and working ability is not sacrificed, imho.

Have you heard of an up-date on the whippet? Have they found her yet?

No word yet that I have heard. Unfortunately it has gotten very cold again. Not good for a dog with no undercoat.

Here is a link to the AKC website with information on the Whippet. It says that as of today she still hadn't been found.
