2/10/06 Battlestar Galactica

Anyone else find this to be another episode with parallels to today. There were some lines in it that sounded very familiar. Particularly the bit about not negotiating with terrorists.

"Just give them what they want!" , "What if the terrorists are right?"

sound like things we hear a lot these days. When i heard "Just give them what they want!" it really reminded me of the way people react to hostage takings in Iraq today. In fact I think Jill Carroll said the same thing in a video the same day this was aired. That is something that immediately struck me.

Anyone else think the widow was a Cindy Sheehan type of tragic character. One who has had a loss but then goes off the deep end taking out her anger on the military and the government.

Crusade was really good. Serious Sci Fi but TNT wanted to go a different direction and I can see why Mike S told them to forget it.

Sorry about your marriage.

I remember the day I saw Ep I and thinking, man, I've waited 16 years for this? I felt really let down.

you know the thing with Ep 1 is that if you go back and watch it again, it isn't so bad. I think part of the problem was the anticipation and the fact that the bar was set so high. Funny thing is that as much as i like the original trilogy, the acting is at times really awful. That is not something you notice until you've seen it a few times and are not longer engrossed by the story.

Sorry about your marriage.

Don't be! The 2'nd "Mrs. Dirtbiker" is a lot better than the first one, and instead of 2 boys, I have 5, with one daughter-in-law! Right now, the are (3) 24's, 21, 20, and 16.

The biggie was the character of Jar Jar. I mean GL really bought the farm with that one.

I think flashbacks to DVs childhood might have been better and gave him more time to develop II and III. But they are his and that's that.

And Natalie Portman totally sucked.

Glad to hear it. I'm still on my first marriage and childless (long story).

Did you catch tonight's episode? It is about a girl who stowed away to get an abortion on BSG. Cross this show off my list.

I just caught the tail end of it. Then the Pres's VP announces hisi candidacy for President? WTF? This was the only time I watched BSG. I don't think I'll watch it again.

Is there anything on TV anymore that isn't politicized?

You know, if people keep making kneejerk reactions to stuff based on a few minutes of a program, or because of what some reviewer says, you're going to miss a lot of great movies and TV.

(Spoiler alert for west coasters)

Roslyn, the President, ended up criminalizing abortion, which Admiral Adama was also in favor of. The VP, who is a weasel/traitor, used it as a political opportunity to oppose this policy, and use it to launch his campaign for President.

Otherwise, I strongly suggest watching the show from the beginning. The original miniseries and season 1 are on TV.

The show doesn't travel down the predictable paths you might expect.

hmm, you should watch a few episodes. seriously, it is a fascinating show and DU goes crazy about some of the stuff they show. Look at the thread about the one with the liberal media working with the enemy and the one where the anti war group calls for surrender and launches suicide attacks in the name of peace. Then there is last weeks deranged Cindy Sheehan episode. I dont agree with everything on the show, but i know they treat religion with respect and at the same time contrast that with an islamofascist type of religion. Religion good and bad is huge part of the show oddly enough, the opening credits are actually the Hindu gayatri mantra (sung with a bad accent)

It is a good show with a complex plot. don't write it off after watching a little bit it is probably one of the best shows on TV right now.

I just got the first few 2nd season shows on DVD that end with, "Pegasus." I haven't had the time to watch any of them since I missed the, "Tigh Me Up," show. Any idea when the rest will be released? I intend to buy them all.

Oh, and xrp? This show is strong in conservative values. It takes on the arrogance of the media, humanity of those defending freedoms, and all sorts of subjects. I also highly recommend BG. It's like nothing I expected.

BTW, Chief's my favorite character. That guy acts out the part so very well, especially during the whole Sharon the Cylon thing and while stranded on Kobol.
Olmos goes without saying; he simply rocks.
Starbuck's a babe as well.
OK, I'll shaddap now.

Last evening's episode should drive the DUmmies crazy. It is a cautionary tale on never letting your guard down against terrorism.

A liberal, bread and circuses candidate gets elected and promptly turns into a dictator who betrays his people.

If that isnt a slam against Kerry and Hitlery, then I don't know what is.

I have missed out on SO many episodes. I have the first season (except for "Tigh Me," and the last one when Adama is shot) on VHS and just bought BG:2.0. I watched every DVD in one sitting. Unfortunately, it ended with, "Pegasus."
