Jimmy Carter - No-Show at King Funeral in '68
2/10/2006 | Hoodat

Missing from the list of attendees at the funeral of Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968 was the name of the Lt. Governor - James Earl Carter. Also missing was the President of the United States - LBJ.

I find it criminal that Carter can use the funeral of Coretta Scott King to criticize President Bush when he didn't bother to show up for her husbands funeral.

It is noteworthy that both Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan attended the '68 funeral of King, while President Johnson did not.

Yeah. He was being chased by killer rabbits while reading a Playboy.

Excellent detective work, if it can be substantiated. Please forward any documentation to Drudge.

More like...

"There were no republicans to attack that day, so skip the funeral".

Although not politically correct, would be more like the truth.

What was Mrs. MLK doing in Mexico at the time of her death? Was she trying to get a "Howard Hughes" medical treatment?

Was MLK's funeral in Georgia?

In Atlanta GEORGIA April 9, 1968

Two services were held for Dr. King in Atlanta Ga. on April 9. The first funeral was at 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where both he and his father had served as pastors for many years. Since it could only hold 1,300 people, attendance was restricted to family, friends, distinguished guests and members of the congregation. A second service was held for the public in the quadrangle of Morehouse College, Dr. King's alma mater, later that afternoon. Numerous tributes to his life were given at both events.

Hmmmmmmm..seems Jimmy missed BOTH services

Source?

I just pulled up a copy of the April 9&10, 1968 Atlanta Constitution on microfilm at Georgia Tech. The only ones in state government attending were Attorney General Bolton and former Governor Sanders. That little tidbit was found on page A6 the day after the funeral (lower left).

I can go back on Monday, print it out, scan it into a pdf file, and attach it if you like.

Hilarious - evil Republicans Reagan and Nixon attend, but not "Mr. Civil Rights," LBJ nor our "Greatest Ex-President," Jimmy Carter.

Will Katie Couric report this on THE TODAY SHOW?

I think you meant to say 'alternative treatment at a "medical" facility.'
