In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

sapient \SAY-pee-uhnt\ adjective
Wise, sage, discerning

Example sentences:
By actual measurement they are the brainiest of birds, and on subjective evidence they seem more sapient than most other living creatures.
-- David Quammen, "Bird Brains," New York Times, August 1, 1999

He also gives much of the book over to the voice and point of view of Wyatt's bright, quirky Aunt Ellen, who functions as a sapient observer of the world of the novel..
-- Lorrie Moore, "God Does Not Love Aunt Ellen," New York Times, February 14, 1993

Etymology: Sapient comes from Latin sapiens, sapient-, present participle of sapere, "to taste, to have sense, to know."

Happy Birthday to Dain Bramage and Fierce Allegiance!

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

I'm not sure how sapient I would be to watch the Preds-Wings game tonight after last night's shellacking. But I guess I'll try to catch most of it anyway. Don't be in the crowd pickin' your nose to get on international TV, Miss Garden! But if you do, I'll tell people "I know that woman, it's exlaxmommy." How's that?

I thought it was funny that someone who has been here for over two years was thin-skinned enough to get upset so easily.

Yup! :^) Cause I'll be busy today here. And I see that if I want a private meeting with Laura Bush it appears I gotta become Pope.

See you.

Good morning, secret:

The Left hasn't had a sapient thought
For more than the past five years
Their scream of "Bush Lied! and "Impeach Now!"
Have driven most people to tears

Wishing doesn't make it true
Except in those areas solidly blue
But then, those people need to buy a clue
Instead of chasing Bong hits with Crazy~Glue

You need to follow rules and win some seats
'06 doesn't look so good for for Liberal Elites
While Hillary's being advised to run on Hate
Which is a sure Recipe For Defeat in '08.

Jack Deth~ 02/09/06.
