Look at the photo of the writer of this foolish article. That should say it all ....... he's a funny-looking, pencil-necked, dinky dweeb ............. who knows nothing about COMPETING in sports.
Then came Pittsbugh's first touchdown. Whether you think Roethlisberger broke the plane of the goal line seems to depend on which team you were rooting for. The odd part was the line judge seemed to have determined that Big Ben had come up short as he ran in from the sideline. Since Roethlisberger had been pushed back well short of the goal line I don't know what he could have seen as he got closer to the pile that would have made him change his mind.
Even I, in my general ignorance of pro sports could see that the refs in the Super Bowl were completely out to lunch.
I've heard announcers point out before that in championship games, the refs will either tighten-up the foul calling, or loosen up what they'll call - but they need to do it for both teams.
It seemed pretty clear that the refs were letting the Steelers get away with stuff they weren't allowing Seattle to get away with.
Refs have bad days, too. SO?
Well .............. that gets a flag..............
I feel like I am making excuses, because my team certainly made it's share of mistakes but the officiating in this SB was worse than I can remember. No way was the Steelers QB TD a TD. No way. And the call against Darrell Jackson in the end zone? If that is pushing off then they need to calling that a hell of a lot more during the regular season because guys are doing that in every game every week of the year and not getting called, ie:Keyshawn Johnson. The holding call that wasn't? It's called a pancake block ref, look it up. Flagging Hasslebeck for "blocking below the waist?" HE WAS MAKING A TACKLE YOU MORON REF!!!!
Not true. Even if that 1 single call for a touchdown were allowed and all else was the same, Steelers still would have won by 4.
I think it was a pretty good call in the end zone, though tight. The receiver looked like he was deliberately pushing back/off of the defender.
And as far as better team? Neither played that greatly last nite, and maybe Seattle did play better, strictly speaking. But overall thru the season I wouldn't say so - not w/the same line-up of players. So I have no problem w/Steelers winning. (Call me biased - my husband's a rabid fan; but then, I'm only new to this whole wife thing. ;-D)
But the Seahawks did well and should be proud they've made it this far, finally.
While the refs left something to be desired, the only truly bad call I saw was the holding one. The offensive pass interference in the end zone was questionable, but I couldn't tell if the receiver would have managed to get back to the ball without the slight push off. Seattle also benefitted (possibly) by an incomplete call when replays showed the receiver catch the bal, put both feet down and turn upfield before getting hit and coughing it up. A Steeler was pursuing the ball towards the sideline when the ref blew it dead as incomplete. Not the neatest game, and the Steelers certainly didn't look superior, but I couldn't see where the refs changed the outcome.
Oh BOO HOO HOO,
the crowd was too loud
the lights was in my eyes
the ground was too HARD
the ground was too soft and mushy
the temp was too cold
the temp was too hot
the altitude was too high
the altitude was too low
THE REFS STANK,
etc,etc,etc
OH BOO HOO HOO!
Seatle couln't score points. That's why they lost.
Well the game was in Detroit.
Personally, neither team deserved to win. This game ranks at the bottom.
Doesn't matter. I won the parley! :o)
It felt like the refs were shafting the Seahawks, but really the Seahawks made alot more mistakes than the refs.
I also felt like Cowher outcoached Holmgren.
Alligator arms ........
I'm just glad I'm not the guy that has to hit the button during the 7 sec. delay on Seattle sports call-in shows!
The refs didn't hand this game to anyone. The Steelers did their best to try and lose it but four big plays made the difference (Ward x2, Parker and Taylor). As far as the "bad" calls go...
1) The 1st touchdown: the reply was uncertain so even if the call had gone the other way, it wouldn't have been reversed. IMO Ben made it in when the ball was about 6 to 12 in off the ground. The ball arced into the white paint and then was outside again when it made contact. It's close but that's a touchdown.
2) Holding calls: I don't remember the sequence but I think there were two significant ones. The one that ended up as a takedown was definitely holding; the other was a bad call in my opinion, just a good block.
3) Offensive pass interference in the endzone: both players have an equal right to the ball. If the roles had been reversed and the corner had pushed off the receiver in the exact manner in order to get the pick, everyone would be crying for pass interference and they'd be right. The ref was right too.
4) Some calls went in Seattle's favor: the refs correctly reversed the call that Hasselbeck fumbled the ball during his 4th quarter scramble. Also, I think it was Stevens that "dropped" a pass after getting hit in the first half. He took two steps and turned around - that should have been a fumble...
HELLO ALGORE!!!
I have 2 calls that I see that didn't make much sense. Only one of them really changed an outcome of the game.
The 1st call that didn't make any sense but didn't really change anything was the "illegal block" on the QB of the Seahawks. HE WAS PLAYING FRIKIN DEFENSE!! He wasn't blocking anyone.
The 2nd call was the TD scored by the Pittsburgh QB. They couldn't reverse it. There was nothing there to reverse it on. However, had they called him down at the 1 inch line, I don't think they would have reversed that either.
The Offensive PI in the endzone was textbook.
The holding call on Seattle when they got down to the 1 was outright wrong, however, I think they got the number wrong. There WAS holding in the middle of the line. If the number was correct, it's wrong, but if it wasn't, then there's a chance it was right on the money.
So I guess that's 3 calls. So sue me. It doesn't really matter, the game sucked, the entertainment sucked, and there weren't NEARLY enough cheerleader shots.
Worst officiated game I've ever watched. It's a shame the better team wasn't allowed to win the game.
