This is the space where I get to crow about the frightening precision of my Super Bowl prediction.
Where I get to remind everyone that I guaranteed the Steelers would win the title after they beat the Colts. That they were the only championship-caliber team among the final four. That they would dismantle the Broncos in Denver and waylay whomever the NFC sent at them.

I've never felt so empty being right. I feel dirty. I wish I'd been wrong. The Steelers did not deserve to win this game. They were not the better team. O'Connor was right. Seattle was the better team.
So, Paul Tagliabue, how does a team lose when it outgains an opponent by 57 yards, controls time of possession and wins the turnover battle?

Every single questionable, marginal or outright bad call went against the Seahawks....

Not true. Even if that 1 single call for a touchdown were allowed and all else was the same, Steelers still would have won by 4.
I think it was a pretty good call in the end zone, though tight. The receiver looked like he was deliberately pushing back/off of the defender.
And as far as better team? Neither played that greatly last nite, and maybe Seattle did play better, strictly speaking. But overall thru the season I wouldn't say so - not w/the same line-up of players. So I have no problem w/Steelers winning. (Call me biased - my husband's a rabid fan; but then, I'm only new to this whole wife thing. ;-D)
But the Seahawks did well and should be proud they've made it this far, finally.
While the refs left something to be desired, the only truly bad call I saw was the holding one. The offensive pass interference in the end zone was questionable, but I couldn't tell if the receiver would have managed to get back to the ball without the slight push off. Seattle also benefitted (possibly) by an incomplete call when replays showed the receiver catch the bal, put both feet down and turn upfield before getting hit and coughing it up. A Steeler was pursuing the ball towards the sideline when the ref blew it dead as incomplete. Not the neatest game, and the Steelers certainly didn't look superior, but I couldn't see where the refs changed the outcome.
Now that was ridiculous. Didn't really figure in the outcome, but geez, how do they mess that one up?
Simple -- the receiver pushed off the defender (hand in the chest) to make space to catch the ball. That's cheating, and was rightfully flagged. It should be called more often in the NFL, but this was 1) blatant and 2) right in front of the ref.
The Steelers made three scores as a the result of a great pass play, a great running play, and a great gadget play. They deserved to win.
Yeah, interpretation, interpretation, interpretation. Entire ball. It's definitive. If it's good enough for the NHL (entire puck has to cross the red line for a goal), it should be good enough for the NFL.
What is the origin of this plane rule? Pile-up on the goal-line with a QB/RB/FB extending the ball (i.e., no one touching the ground)? Minimizing injuries (e.g., Marcus Allen flying over a pile into the endzone)?
Nose of the ball got to the goal line. The call was correct, and the reply wasn't conclusive enough to show that it wasn't.
Flagging Hasslebeck for "blocking below the waist?"
This, I will agree was a bad call. How about the non-fumble on the so-called "incomplete pass". How about Hasslebeck getting grazed by a finger when he was aldready going down on his own negating a fumble?
The only calls you want to rememebr are the ones that went against your own team.
All I saw was Jackson's (I've got to defend my fellow Gator, after all :)) arms go under the Steeler defender, I never saw the hands touch the defender's chest in a way that allowed Jackson to push off, or stopped the momemtum of the defender. And the defender doing the exact same thing to Jackson, in fact, you could have made a case for defensive pass interference on that play.
Oh BOO HOO HOO,
the crowd was too loud
the lights was in my eyes
the ground was too HARD
the ground was too soft and mushy
the temp was too cold
the temp was too hot
the altitude was too high
the altitude was too low
THE REFS STANK,
etc,etc,etc
OH BOO HOO HOO!
Seatle couln't score points. That's why they lost.
Well the game was in Detroit.
Personally, neither team deserved to win. This game ranks at the bottom.
It has to do with how they spot the ball for the next play. If any part of the ball is in the end zone (and the lines are part of the end zone), then they would be spotting the ball in the end zone for the next play. Ridiculous, no? Ditto for safeties -- if any part of the ball remains in the end zone, it's a safety.
A game as ugly as the city it was played in.
Exactly.
Doesn't matter. I won the parley! :o)
It felt like the refs were shafting the Seahawks, but really the Seahawks made alot more mistakes than the refs.
I also felt like Cowher outcoached Holmgren.
Alligator arms ........
Jackson pushed the defender in the chest with his hand, and used that momentum to create separation. Other than a pick or blocking downfield before a catch, it's about as blatant as offensice pass interference gets. I don't see why people are complaining about the call (other than die-hard Seahawks fans, who need to comfort themselves by blaming anyone but their own team).
Ugh! (I hate defending Irvin, but...) All your elite WR's are adept at pushing off.
Hard to score points when the refs take'm away chief.
It all sounds like sour grapes, I am sure...but...the Steelers shouldnt feel so proud winning this Turkey.
