Heather Locklear and her rock-star husband Richie Sambora are splitting up, the actress's rep, Cece Yorke, tells PEOPLE.

"After 11 years of marriage Heather Locklear has filed for divorce from Richie Sambora," says the rep. "This is a private matter and there will be no further comment at this time."

In paperwork filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Locklear requests physical custody of the couple's 8-year-old daughter, Ava Elizabeth, with visitation rights for Sambora. The actress cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. According to the divorce petition, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement that determines how their assets will be divided.

The couple, who were married Dec. 17, 1994 in Paris, were introduced by Locklear's friend, makeup artist Lisa Christy. Seven months later, Sambora, the guitarist for Bon Jovi, popped the question.

The day after the proposal, Locklear, who was then starring on Melrose Place, proudly flashed her pear-shaped diamond engagement ring from Cartier while attending the Emmys. They soon set up house in Locklear's airy, four-bedroom home in L.A.

Locklear and this is the second marriage for Locklear, 44, who split from Motley Crue dummer Tommy Lee in 1993 after nearly eight years of marriage. This was the first marriage for Sambora, 46, who previously dated Cher.

Locklear's TV credits include Spin City, Dynasty and T.J. Hooker. She recently starred opposite Hilary Duff in The Perfect Man.

I understand but I'm afraid that image has been replaced by the poor pup hanging over the john. Of course I also associated your SN with a couple of opinion pieces you had done in the past.

You should watch CMT. I cannot believe that CMT has turned into what MTV used to be. A lot young attratcive female country singers who are not afraid to be sexy and just flaunt it.

There's only one problem- they play country music! Maybe I'll try it with the volume off.

Guys, I'm 37 and I think she's smokin'.

There are lots of women who look hideous at 30. The ones who maintain beauty and age gracefully are rare.

On that note, you should see my wife's mom. woo hoo!!!

Something about women when they hit 40...maybe it is confidence or that they've relaxed about life. But I think they just start to hit their stride. Heather is no exception

She went to the same high school and was in the same grade as my husband. He doesn't remember her, but some of his friends do.

A woman I worked with knew her through her daughter's acquaintance with her. One year Heather invited my co-worker and her daughter to accompany them to one of the award shows (can't remember if it was Emmy or Academy). All I know is that it seemed to me she was pretty nice to invite them. I don't think the 'skank' comments by sine here are appropriate. She's a beautiful talented woman and I wish her well.

I first saw Heather L. in TJ Hooker...I also remember her in the TV film "City Killer". The film is about a guy who blows up buildings to gain attention from the character played by Heather L.

I think Heather L. contributed money to some GOP Congressional candidate running in her area...

If you are a fan of both country music (west Texas - not crossover) and hot chicks, Miranda Lambert will be on "Austin City Limits" tonight 02/04(?). Her website say Saturday, February 6, but obviously that's not right.

Few men at 44 look half as good as Heather Locklear.

Your comments are simply delusional.
