NEW YORK (Reuters) - If you're stuck for entertainment in New York on a Friday night, and as long as you're man enough, try learning to rib at "Boyz Nite" at a Greenwich Village venue from 9 until late.

Rosie did needlepoint, I believe. Much more manly, LOL!

My step-Dad hooks rugs...but his problems go MUCH deeper than that. ;)

"And I made a bikini pattern for a guy who wanted to knit a bikini for his girlfriend."

My husband makes me hand-crafted jewelry with semi-precious stones that he polishes and tumbles himself. Right now, he's polishing an opal for me, and there are sapphires in the rock tumbler...

What woman wouldn't hit that? LOL! (Hands off!)

Thank you I checked out the website, it was really kind of neat.....personally I really do not care if guys knit or not..... I will still take my non knitting husband, I prefer the smell of Hoppes gun cleaning oil to that of yarn.....

Hand-crafted jewelry is in a completely different realm. The jewelry making husband is the stuff of myths and legends, like the straight male hairdresser husband.

He's a keeper!

I've been sick! I've had ear infection, fifth disease, flu, sinus infection, anaphylexic antibiotic reaction, and I'm just getting better.

You're the first person, during all that time of one after the other thingies to ask....January was not a good month for me...

It was an unpleasant month, but now it's February. Now begins the long haul into spring! If I were living back in Houston, I'd be thinking: two more weeks until it's time to prune the roses.

But it'll be a while more to go here. Still time to think about cool weather knitting....

Are there yarns that are just difficult to pull from the skein, or is there a trick to doing it right that I'm missing? I had good luck with Red Heart's Light and Lofty until very recently. Normally, I pull yarn from the center of the skein, but the last two skeins have totally knotted up. More time was spent untangling the yarn than knitting a scarf (well, practically, LOL!)

It is extremely frustrating.

Didn't knitting start with men and sailors?
(You'd know)

They did it, but the origins of knitting is sort of lost in the medieval period. Seems to have started in the moslem countries in North Africa, moved into Spain, and spread across Europe.

At times, it was controlled somewhat by guilds, and then it was man's work.

As people switched from things like woven stockings to knitted stockings, it became more and more of a household thing. People knitted underwear, stockings, caps and mittens and fingerless mitts and bags, sometimes. In Scandinavia, I believe, they started knitting sweaters as outerwear fairly early, as did people connected to the sea...ganseys are developed sometime in the 18th century; like 18th century shirts, they have gussets in the armholes. By the end of the 19th century, sweaters were being worn by all sorts of people.

KAC, I am so sorry about all your health problems. You and I are a pair; in early 12/05 I discovered my spouse's second affair, so I am in the midst of divorce proceedings, splitting belongings, trying to file taxes, etc. As a matter of fact, I just felt like picking up my counted cross stitch last week; it took that long.

I do think that it is therapeutic--kind of mindless, in a way (until you have to count stitches or frog mistakes!).

The wussification of the US citizenry knows no end.

The wussification of Greenwich Village anyway. The only surprise is that they are drinking beer.

I am waiting for the movie "Brokepurl Mountain"

OTOH, maybe these guys are super-violent types who were taught this skill while in a state cryogenic animation.

I am sorry for you, too. That is so hard. But you are right, the needlework helps.

Oh the ways of frogging....rip it, rip it, rip it....shame we have to do it to our lives sometimes.
