From the stats pages, you can see that we are outpacing DU by about a 3.5:1 ratio, and that Klutz does about 40% of the team's work. Even if he were knocked offline, our work rate would still be doubling theirs. Even though my position only hovers around #100 on this team, it would be in the top 40 (and climbing) on DU.

I think Klutz might be on to something here... if you are trying to run the GUI version as a service you will have problems.

Only the console version can be used as a service, and it does not go through a formal install process. You just copy it to the directory where you want it to run and go through the configuration.

Thanks for the insight Klutz!!

I wasnt trying to run the GUI client as a service. I installed the gui client but used the console 5.02 and 5.04 in that directory and problems ensued from there.

One needs to put console clients in their own directory and use a -local flag to make them stay there and play well with others.

Not even 40%.... when I joined at Christmas, the team had about 80,000 pts, so I'm only accounting for about 20-25%, on an average. So even if they took away my points today, the FR folders would still be at 998,000, or at #335 in the position charts, or about 65 spots lower on the chart. but still way ahead of "that other team".

That's what the dummies don't realize, in judging how far they advance in 7, or 24 hrs, is the climb is SOOOOO much steeper at this point.

I just pour on a few more, to 1) keep me ahead of their team entirely.... ( which really has to chap their a**es) and 2) get the team over a few speedbumps. But it's the other 500+ cpu's, and all the other team members, that really keep us growing.

What's really telling, is that if all of us quit today, and started an entirely new team, we'd pass them up in about 30 days or less, starting over at zero. Without Klutz, it'd take about 45 days.

They are just not very good at doing the math. They're the type of folks, that will laugh at someone broken down by the side of the road, "hahaha... my car is faster than yours is"....

yep. Although the gui may not be running, it's config and work files are still there.

Best bet is to do a clean sweep, uninstall the gui, delete directories, disable any current console versions (services), and start fresh with a new directory.

(make sure that you stop the gui, before you attempt to uninstall, or it won't).

Hey Mike, did I ever tell you that I AM A DEMOCRAT. Been a registered democrat ever since 1976. Unfortunately for y'all, Jimmy Carter cured me of the pathological disease of following the "shining path" blindly and I tossed out my little red book, to boot.

Hey Klutz, welcome to the club! There are alot more Dems (and xDems) that belong here than the DUmmies would ever believe. I was a Democrat when I joined, back during the 2000 election debacle when the Dems tried to steal the election. I was born and raised a Dem, but I corrected that fact a few years ago. I am also a union member (not by choice), even served as Business Manager for our small local. There are a ton more closet-Republicans in the unions (especially public-sector ones) than the leadership imagines, and we are starting to come out. My last union conference was fun when I let everyone know I was a Republican!! Too bad our local has voted NOT to do any political contributions/support, and limites our activities and money to actually helping our members. More locals need to do the same, the International can't force you to contribute to their PACs, they all have to be 'voluntary'! Anyway, the DUmmies are wailing and gnashing their teeth, coming to realize that as the slope gets steeper, they have no hope of ever catching us. Happy folding!

83. Actually they don't... This type of software is a security risk in an enterprise environment. Most Enterprise IT groups would find this behavior unacceptable. More and more shops are moving toward a managed desktop solution (locking down what apps can/can not run on them). I work in the enterprise desktop management industry. The people having 100+ CPUs at their disposal are probably doing so either because
- they manage those desktops,
- they are doing so without the approval on the owners,
- they have gotten everyone they know to run the client with their account information, OR
- they reverse-engineered the network traffic and are sending false results back.

Klutz- 'fes up - you really work for Diebold, don't you!!

This is the first time this has occured in 6 pc's I have installed on. I use this laptop the most though so it may be something to do with my use.

I just ran the numbers. At our current rates of production, if we started over from zero we would pass them in 10 days.

If we started over from zero without KD, we would pass them in 20 days.

Oh ya, one needs to do a -config once and set the console's machine ID to something different from the other clients on the machine.

Have you exercised your rights under the Beck decision?

The high court found that 79 percent of Mr. Beck's union fees were funding non-representational activities (chiefly political) instead of the three core functions of the union: collective bargaining, contract administration or grievance adjustment.

Unions are required to notify all members, at least annually, of the percentage of funds spent in the last accounting year for non-representational activities. Upon request from a member, a union must provide a breakdown of all representational and non-representational expenditures.

The high court ordered that Mr. Beck's fees expended on non-representational activities be refunded.

Have you exercised your rights under the Beck decision? Nah... $175 is peanuts, our union is pretty apolitical, and only gets involved with local and state elections, and in those, I'm liable to vote for the other candidate, just because he tips my wife well when he goes to lunch where she works. The local union rep is really a doll. I'd pay $175 bucks a year, just so she takes me to lunch every 6 months or so... :) I did raise that issue, when they wanted to raise dues last year, they promised to get back with me, but never did, but didn't raise the dues either. *imagine that* The only thing that irks me about this union, is not the union itself, but the professional organizations that I belong to, that REQUIRE union membership, to join. They aren't affiliated with the unions, except that they're all in bed with each other so to speak...
