On behalf of the Commonwealth of VA, I would like to apologize to the guy who registered just to apologize, for the necessity of having to sign up... and.. apologize.

The persons responsible have been sacked.

That picture of Kaine in front of the Arab American Institute sign made me recall this Washington Post Article on the NoVA special election that was won by the Democratic Candidate in a landslide.

Specifically this quote, right at the bottom:

“Democrats promise that they will look at the interests of the Muslim people,” said Mohammed Ali, 75, a native Bangladeshi, who moved six months ago to Loudoun from Herndon.

Really makes one wonder about some of the pandering that appears to be going on (possibly under the political radar), and who it's being done to.

Likewise, a Virginian, I take great pleasure in the fact that our liberal governor represents the best that the national Democrats could come up with.

Hey, he may be a liberal democrat in virginia, but he's still better than most of the national democrats.

He gave a good speech, if you could ignore his eyebrow. And he only have a few untruths, and even they were grounded in a semblance of the truth, which is more than I can say for most democrats.

And I will note with pride that he resisted saying the word "corruption" (he said cronyism, but not corruption).

I will note also that his "better way" is that democrats in our state work WITH the republicans, rather than blocking them at every turn. If his own party would listen to him the country would be better off.

Hey, Howard Dean just sent me an e-mail. He will pretend to like Kaine's speech, but the fact is a lot of republicans will have appreciated the speech, and that has GOT to privately bother the true democrats.

I was a bit embarrassed that he couldn't speak better, and he messed up some words, and for a while he sounded like a robot, but he caught his stride and I think he closed well. He wouldn't last 10 seconds in the democrat caucus, and his "better way" is anathema to the MoveOn crowd, and frankly he proposed very little.

He is right about Virginia, we are a great state. Our acheivements belie the national democrat notion that the Bush policies are ruining our country, and that obstructionism is the only nobel act of a minority party.

OK, that's all. I wanted to defend my governor for one night, in the spirit of pride in my commonwealth. I may have my gripes with my governor, but he is MY governor, the governor of the great state of Virginia, the best state in the United States.

~possibly under the political radar~

A lot goes on under the radar here in Northern Virginia. Unfortunately, Kilgore didn't shine a light on the past governor. Thus....Kaine.

Scary, isn't it?

Yes and no. Politicians are expected to pander (ok, I'll be PC and call it "conduct issues outreach") to different groups as a means of putting together a winning election coalition.

I just want it to be open and above-board. No secret deals. I live in that VA Senate District and up until I read this I thought that the election was all about the Dems conducting a politics-of-personal-destruction campaign against the Republican (I've gotten at least one and often more pieces of direct-mail attack fliers against the Republican DAILY for the past three weeks, and last weekend I had to deal with those stupid automated calls at least four or five times each day). Then I read this and discover that there's been a targeted, issues-related outreach effort that didn't make it into the local press (no surprise, of course).

I think Kaine helped George Allen. Kaine couldn't help but brag about how Virginians have a better way, how we work together to make government work (this is actually mostly true, largely because of a strongly republican legislature which unfortunately has a few strong moderate/liberal leaders but still does a lot of things right). Allen, being from Virginia, is part of this legacy, and should look less "partisan" based on this picture of Virginia.

I feel your pain!

These demos are unbelievable, they are always trying to re-invent themselves and package the same old crap with some lame slogan. It didn’t work for al bore or john scary, but why not try it again. What was the definition of insanity again?

We don't vote on superficialities. Or it could be because no debates were televised because the republican was scared about how HE would look (like a deer in the headlights). Or it could be because the republican had a soutwest virginia accent that made him sound a little like a yokel.

The eyebrow is a bit creepy, but I think it would be wrong to use that as a reason to vote for or against someone. His positions on the issues was a lot scarier.
