Yes and no. Politicians are expected to pander (ok, I'll be PC and call it "conduct issues outreach") to different groups as a means of putting together a winning election coalition.
I just want it to be open and above-board. No secret deals. I live in that VA Senate District and up until I read this I thought that the election was all about the Dems conducting a politics-of-personal-destruction campaign against the Republican (I've gotten at least one and often more pieces of direct-mail attack fliers against the Republican DAILY for the past three weeks, and last weekend I had to deal with those stupid automated calls at least four or five times each day). Then I read this and discover that there's been a targeted, issues-related outreach effort that didn't make it into the local press (no surprise, of course).
