Q: About a year ago, I made the heart-wrenching decision to leave a great job, house, friends and family to move to Hawaii with my fiancé.
As part of this transition, I also chose to have my two beloved chow chow dogs put to sleep.
I adored those dogs, but I justified their sacrifice to the greater good of a successful relationship.
After six months, I am still tormented by memories of my dogs. The depths of anguish and loss make me think I got rid of them for purely selfish reasons, which is the kind of behavior I thought I reviled. I feel that I have gone from dog-lover to dog-killer in one trans-Pacific flight.
A: I am truly sorry you feel so wracked with guilt about your decision to put your dogs to sleep.

I'm very attached to my dog. She saved my first wife's life when she was 2 years old and after my wife finally died she mourned with the rest of us. I came home not long ago and found my back door kicked in and blood all over the kitchen floor she still had part of someone's pants leg. So I think I'll keep her around for a while she earned it.

"What person ~could~ be the love of my life and still ask this?" Correct. The answer to the "If you loved me you would..." is always "And if you loved me you wouldn't ask."
If the love of my life did not like my pet then I might never get another one but prior commitments do not vanish because of new ones.
There would need to be a reason beyond "I just don't like..."

LOL! The same with my late husband and me. When we first married he would not let me have a pet in the house and I grew up with pets in the house. That did not set well with me. By the time he died, 33 years later, we had at one time had 3 dogs (2 of them big) and 4 cats in the house. At least two cats slept with us at all times and one dog on each side of the bed on the floor and the third in the doorway. LOL! I still have two dogs and one cat.

This is the Harm - GoodGirlinRed's Beloved Dog. She told me to tell you....
He is at least 20 pounds heavier now and taller and much more serious looking (most of the time).
He is awfully cute!!! She did promise us updated pictures soon!

Thank you so much. I love that big baby more than I can tell you in words. I had to buy him an SUV because he got so big he could not move in the backseat of my sedan. ROFLOL.

Thank you, DD. I appreciate your putting Harm on for me. I am so technologically challenged. When he pulls his first sled, or if, I will send pictures. ;) They might have a hard time getting a harness on him as I have to wrestle him to get a collar on him. :(

Fine looking dog! Once I get kids I want to get a family hound: a proud and dignified bulldog! My fave dog breed of all! :-)

I saved it on my computer. I will go wake Harm up, he is asleep in his chair in the great room, and tell him he is famous on Free Republic now because of you. Thank you.
