After the confirmation of Samuel Alito, I heard Fox New Channel's Reporter Megan Kendall when asked who might be next to retire from the bench said, "Justice Stevens has stated in the past that he was confirmed under a Republican President wants to retire under a Republican President."

Like that dude on Star Trek who was just a head sticking out of a box with flashing lights? One blink for no, two blinks for yes.

As Pat Robertson would say, this is Gods will.

No way he wants the possibility of Hillary naming his successor. To go further, I'd wager that he and Biush have already discussed his retirement..as to the timing..FWIW, my pick is this summer, after the Court's session..so that the nomination can become an issue in the November election..Rove is a freakin' genius..

LOL! I've seen that episide countless times and it's always as funny as the first time.
Jerry and his girlfriend kept calling each other "Schmoozie" and George tired of that name. The actress in real life married George Stephnopholussss or however his name is spelled. She's a cutie and I thought Georgie was a bit light in the loafers.

So why would he want to retire under a GOP pres, if this is accurate?

Ted Kennedy would have a stroke or heart attack.
I suspect that Justice Stevens may have a stroke or heart attack if he thinks these rumors are floating around, let alone being talked about on TV, OR did Megan leave out the last part of his quote "...under a Republican President" (just not THIS ONE!) I have a hunch that a stroke or heart attack is the only way George Bush will name his successor and that he would probably stay on the court no matter what his physical or mental condition until after the next presidential election.

And I think you are exactly right. I believe the only way Bush will name another SC nominee will be another death.

Are you serious....?
Am I dreaming?
....no wait....no it's not April Fools day.......It's not Ground hog day......
If this is true it would be better than winning the lottery.....maybe we'd all have a real chance of holding on to our Private Property rights, and other assorted Freedoms under assault.
Are you serious...seriously? What else did she say.
I always thought Stevens was planning on leaving the Supreme Court Feet first.

So why would he want to retire under a GOP pres, if this is accurate?Maybe even a uberRINO is more comfortable with GWB than he would be with the possible Democrat pick.
In the last session, the last session with Renquist and O'Connor, Stevens dissented more than any other judge, perhaps he's just tired of being in the minority.
If he wanted a Dem to replace him he could have retired between the ages of 72 and 80. The man is pushing 86 and might want to relax and spend some of his remining time with the family.
This story could be false, but I heard it 2 weeks ago.

Boy Janice Rogers Brown....I'd really love to turn the tables for once on the Democrats and Call them a bunch of Racists for once.
You know they'd have an absolute heart attack if she was nominated but hey....we know that the next nomination is going nuclear for sure so why not pull out the big guns!

Wonderful news. He deserves to spend his remaining years in a peaceful retirement.
Now who is a solid constitutionalist Latina female judge to take his place? Thereby ensuring President Bush can name the first Latino SC Justice and ensuring the SC goes back to what the Founding Fathers envisioned it to be.
While I would love to see JRB on the SC, Latinos are the fastest growing minority in the US. They also are much more likely to vote Republican then Blacks. Politically speaking the next shot at the ring should be a Latino, and it would be a greater kick in the face to the Democrats if said person was female.
