FNC Reporter Megan Kendall: "Justice Stevens wants to retire under a Republican President."
January 31, 2006

Posted on 01/31/2006 12:05:42 PM PST by new yorker 77

After the confirmation of Samuel Alito, I heard Fox New Channel's Reporter Megan Kendall when asked who might be next to retire from the bench said, "Justice Stevens has stated in the past that he was confirmed under a Republican President wants to retire under a Republican President."

With a mouth like that, just opening it is enough.

I don't know that there was any silent agreement and Breyer and Ginsburg practically voted that Al Gore should be handed the presidency no matter what, have no qualms. But I'm sure the other 7 (who voted to varying degrees for the Bush campaign) didn't want their legacy to have a mark on it.

And you meant Rehnquist's death, not Ginsburg (Freud, call your office).

Here are the ages:

Ted Kennedy would explode.

And I'm all for that.

LOL... not a pretty picture! And not really fair to those standing within a hundred foot radius. But to be honest, I'm all for it too! :o)

So... why would he want to retire under a Republican president? Guilt? Seriously.

Who are you man? You always complain and moan like a b*tch against President Bush and here he gave us two of the most Conservative judges in the country. I am sure it is a sad day for you today because President Bush legacy on the Supreme Court will be remembered for a long time. Now go and join the DUmmies in their hysteria and depression.

It is possible... Byron White was a conservative, but waited for a Democrat to appoint his successor.

Yeah, that's been said before. The question is whether he wants to retire under this President who will NOT appoint a Breyer to replace him.

I'm willing to believe Stevens considers himself a Republican still. A Liberal Republican, but like Specter. The question he's asking himself is whether he takes a chance on '08. He'd probably love to retire under a McCain, which I intend to make sure doesn't happen, so he may want to wait and see. On the other hand, if not a RINO on the ticket what's his option? A Democrat President that will give him an ideological soulmate or a Republican that maybe won't appoint Brown, but might appoint Williams.

Persoanlly, he needs to decide what's more important. His world view, or showing deference to the party that gave him his career. If he decides the latter, imo, he should retire under Bush. Roberts and Alito are responsible picks. If you can't get a far left extremists, at least he can be assured this President with the careful eye of this base will make sure his replacement isn't an activist nor mental lightweight.

If the CongressCritter was nominated, the people doing the opposition research would overload on FR and self destruct.

I think that they once beat the Borg that way.

I am stunned by this.

I would HOPE it's true, but his voting says otherwise.

There has been a lot of talk about Ginsberg and cancer. Here's what I found on the subject. It would that she like Tony Snow has recovered. There is some question as to if she was actually cancerous.

Link http://www.therubins.com/illness/colon.htm

"Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatment for her colon cancer. Her sigmoid colon was removed on September 11, 1999 for what had been classified as stage-2 cancer. About 75% of stage-2 colon cancer patients are cured. The treatments began in October, 1999 and ended in June of 2000. The classification system rates the cancers up to stage-4. The sigmoid colon makes up the lower third of the large intestine. It now turns out that the original diagnosis of diverticulitis may also have been correct. The operating surgeon, Dr. Lee Smith discovered a perforation in her upper bowel that was non-malignant. It has been estimated that most patients in Justice Ginsburg's condition need at least 4 to 6 weeks to recuperate from this type of surgery.

Justice Ginsburg who is 69 years of age had been taken ill while teaching this summer on the island of Crete. Her ailment was originally misdiagnosed as acute diverticulitis. This type of misdiagnosis happens fairly often because extensive testing is required to enable the medical professionals to distinguish between the two ailments. In diverticulitis, a disorder of the large intestine occurs when the pouches that form on the outside of the colon become infected. Another famous individual who has been in the limelight in connection with colon cancer is the former New York Yankee and New York Met baseball player Daryl Strawberry. Pathologists perform follow up testing to determine how far the cancer has spread in the tubular bowel system. They also perform tests on the lymph nodes to determine the extent of the spreading of the cancer."

When the reporter said this, she also said that this is what she's heard but hasn't independently verified. Let's hope it's true :-)
