FNC Reporter Megan Kendall: "Justice Stevens wants to retire under a Republican President."

After the confirmation of Samuel Alito, I heard Fox New Channel's Reporter Megan Kendall when asked who might be next to retire from the bench said, "Justice Stevens has stated in the past that he was confirmed under a Republican President wants to retire under a Republican President."

That's bizarre considering that he's a reliably left-wing vote.
I was just assuming he might hold out until 2009, but given what he said (who knows how long in the past) and given his age, this might be the time.

I hope it's true. Bush didn't get a chance to make a SC pick during his first term so it'd be nice if he got a chance to get one more on the court before he leaves office.

I honestly believe that there was an "understanding" between the Justices that because they were dragged into the 2000 election fiasco, that none of them would willingly retire before 2005. Now that Bush is in his second term, and without any perception of "taint" in the USSC, the Justices that are getting on in years are free to retire, and are staggering it out to try to keep from having multiple vacancies. Ginsburg's death after O'Connor's retirement announcement threw a wrench into that, but now that O'Connor has been replaced, suddenly Stevens is talking retirement...

Lets calm down here...This is where Bush pulls another boner...
A blind southern one legged black muslim female of mixed American indian/french descent that worked for planned parenthood and the ACLU will be next.. but Bush will assure us he has a "good feeling" about her.

D'oh!
Nice catch, you two. Still, I think my point is valid, even if I screw up little things like basic facts. ;)

I say kudos to the President for Roberts and Alito. I would have preferred Janice Rogers Browne or Estrada or Luttig, but these two are pretty strong appointments. And I'm sure he learned from nominating Harriet Myers too.

Ruth Bader Ginzberg is the one I want President Bush to replace. She was sick a while back, cancer? but she must have recovered.

Janice Rogers Brown comes to mind as the PERFECT candidate for the next Justice.... I'll second that and move to a floor vote immediately!
