Bengals' Henry Arrested on Gun Charges

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry was arrested on gun charges in a weekend street altercation, authorities said.

Henry pulled a 9 mm pistol on a group of revelers early Saturday, according to a police report.

An officer directing traffic aimed his gun at the 22-year-old Henry and ordered him to drop the pistol, the report states.

Henry froze, then moved toward a limo in the street and threw the gun inside the car, the report says. The officer pulled Henry away from the limo and pushed him to the ground, according to the report.

Police said Henry, who still faces a drug charge from an arrest last month in Kentucky, appeared to be preparing to fight with another group on the sidewalk.

Officers found a loaded 9 mm Luger on the back seat of the limo, the report says. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office had listed the gun as stolen, the report states.

Henry was charged with felony counts of possession of a concealed firearm, improper exhibition of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm. He posted $3,000 bail and was released later that night, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team had no comment Monday night.

Henry was charged with marijuana possession after a traffic stop Dec. 15 in Covington, Ky. That charge is pending.

Henry had 31 catches for 422 yards and six touchdowns in 2005, his rookie year out of West Virginia.

Smart move, genius.

NFL players just really need to learn not to carry firearms with them. While I completely support the right of a person to protect themselves, young players with lots of cash just don't have the emotional maturity to probably judge a situation.

An NFL player should always avoid trouble as there is a positive outcome for him. If he wins the altercation he gets sued, if he loses then he gets hurt (Seattle DB) and in either case he usually gets arrested.

i've been listening to the Bengals talk radio guys all morning...

The Bengals need to release him. The guy is apparently nothing but trouble.

And BTW, the gun was reported stolen a couple weeks ago also.

well youth + money (probably more than they ever dreamt of having)+ being on their own for the first time ALWAYS= trouble.

It's amazing that many of them DON'T get arrested. We only hear about the ones that screw up.

I know but why is it the wide receiver position is producing so many hot heads compared to say the running backs?

I heard someone on the radio make the point that the further away you are from the ball, the more trash talikng there is. Making plays 20-30 yards down the field in isolation from other players may lead to more of this me, me, me behavior.

Shame about this kid, he was a heck of a player at WVU but it sounds as if he is about to act his way out of the league.

A couple of weeks ago they were discussing this on one of the ESPN yak shows (who knows which). I think the general concensus was it's because wide receivers do so much of their stuff alone, once the QB throws the ball he's all alone against the opposition and probably the only member of his team visible on camera, and all of this "alone with the glory" time makes them very individualistic and self centered.

Tell you guys some other things I have gotten from listening to the Bengals honks on the radio...

Chris Henry is a loner in the locker room. He doesn't even socialize with his teammates nor does he try to lead or anything like that.

My guess is that this is a sign of his own immaturity and IMO this incident is proving that out.

This kid's career in the NFL is toast. Nobody's going to sign him. Coaches are really cracking down on this type of stuff.

We'll see how much bling he has when he's either working at McDonald's, imprisoned, or shot dead by somebody.
