Conservative Songs?

Posted on 01/26/2006 10:29:18 PM PST by Tim Long

Okay, so we've had a recent rash of lib songs. There's American Idiot, and, er, well I can't think of any more. But that's more than I can think of for conservative songs (excpet country of course). What are some good songs for right-wingers?

I like Metallica... Lots of Classic rock, some country... Oh, hmmm maybe I don't need music to reinforce my political views, I think they should entertain me, you know the saying "shut up and sing"

The Eagles, "Get over it"

The quintessential conservative song, that.

It's easy to write a catchy tune about the plight of the single mother or starving people in Africa. It's a lot more work to write one about the Laffer Curve or falling bond yields.

At any rate, some of the synth pop of the 80s is nice. It reflects the optimistic feeling of the era. Anything seemed possible. Sure nuclear holocaust could happen, but it would have to wait until after the Wang Chung/ A-ha concert. After the arrival of grunge and Clinton in the 90s, everybody started to be serious again. What a God damned drag that was. I still don't think we've recovered.

Any way, that's just my 2 cents...

So strange I remember you in protest of a prayer,
and falling back from seas we fear to sail.

I swear I saw the shooter, gold teeth and a double dare,
Postmodern warnings seem inclined to fail.

Feigning an apology.
Those words they never left your lips.
Those 5 years in Bermuda slide by like the lights of passing ships,
So strange that I remember you,
kneeling deep in Nietzsche's lies
my throat was an open grave i drank your stained glass eyes

and they taste like dead cathedrals
that are crumbling beneath a weight, ten thousand jaded tourists
who've traded in their hearts and hands for
disposable cameras, set to document to decay,
set to capture just enough of life to catalogue the things we throw away.

(...breathing the fumes of our machines...)
We've lost our way.
(...breathing through television dreams...)

If we could only see us now.
If we could only see us now.

The words of the dead ring in our ears,
but its only a lie.
The voice in your head brings you to tears,
but you don't know why.
The words of the dead ring in our ears,
but its only a lie.
The voice in your head brings you to tears,
but its only a lie,
yes, its only a lie,
...isn't it?

:::::::::::

By a band called Thrice. I know it could be anti-Conservative but it REALLY sounds like the indictment of America's current incarnation.

Then there's country music. :)

grunge and so called "alternative" killed music as we know it and we are all worse off because of it.

Capitalism (Oingo Boingo)

There’s nothing wrong with capitalism
There’s nothing wrong with free enterprise
Don’t try to make me feel guilty
I’m so tired of hearing you cry

There’s nothing wrong with making some profit
If you ask me I’ll say it’s just fine
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to live nice
I’m so tired of hearing you whine
About the revolution
Bringin’ down the rich
When was the last time you dug a ditch, baby!

If it ain’t one thing
Then it’s the other
Any cause that crosses your path
Your heart bleeds for anyone’s brother
I’ve got to tell you you’re a pain in the ass

You criticize with plenty of vigor
You rationalize everything that you do
With catchy phrases and heavy quotations
And everybody is crazy but you

You’re just a middle class, socialist brat
From a suburban family and you never really had to work
And you tell me that we’ve got to get back
To the struggling masses (whoever they are)
You talk, talk, talk about suffering and pain
Your mouth is bigger than your entire brain
What the hell do you know about suffering and pain . . .

There’s nothing wrong with capitalism...

Love Me, I'm a Liberal
by Jello Biafra, Mojo Nixon, and the Toad Liquors

i cried when they shot john lennon tears ran down my spine and i cried when i saw “jfk” as though i’d lost a father of mine

but malcolm x and ice-t had it coming, they got what they asked for this time

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

i go to pro-choice rallies recycle my cans and jars. i’ll honk if you love the dead; hope those funny grunge bands become stars

but don’t talk about revolution that’s going a little bit too far

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

i cheered when clinton was chosen. my faith in the system reborn. i’ll do anything to save our schools, if my taxes ain’t too much more

and i love blacks and gays and latinos, as long as they don’t move next door

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

rush limbaugh and the l.a.p.d. should all hang their heads in shame. i can’t understand where they’re at, arsenio should set them straight

but if neigborhood watch doesn’t know you, i hope the cops take down your name

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

yeh, i read the new republic, rolling stone, and mother jones too, if i vote it’s a democrat with a sensible economy view

but when it comes to terrorist arabs, there’s no one more red, white and blue

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

once i was young and had an attitude stickers covered the car i drove in, even went on some direct actions when there weren’t rent-a-cops to be seen

ah, but now i’ve grown older and wiser and that’s why i’m turning you in

so love me, love me, love me i’m a liberal

Much of Rush's music is influenced by Ayn Rand.

Chris Rea.
"You Must Be Evil" :

I come home from work
I see my little girl
She's crying on the floor
She's been watching that tv
This ain't late no, this ain't even dinner time
To show them things on that screen
What's wrong with you

You must be evil

Oh i know why you do it
You're just looking for sensation
You got a hold of something
You tell us that it's news
You don't have to show that stuff
Can't you show us some respect
You can tell us we don't need to see it
We don't need those cheap effects

You must be evil
You must be evil
I wish you were here

You don't have to show that stuff
You ain't fooling no-one
You made my little girl cry
I wish you were here
We all know why you do it
Sometimes you even slow it down
You're giving out some bad ideas here
I can't believe that you don't realise

You must be evil

How about Taxman, by the Beatles...

Let me tell you how it will be
There's one for you, nineteen for me
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Should five per cent appear too small
Be thankful I don't take it all
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah I'm the taxman

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman

Now my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me.
