Extreme heat stops play at Open (It's SOOOO HOT!!!)
Herald Sun ^ | 22 January 2006

Posted on 01/21/2006 8:30:11 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

PLAY was suspended on outside courts at the Australian Open oday as temperatures soared towards a forecast 43 Celsius.

The policy allows for play to be halted on outside courts if the temperature reaches 35 Celsius. It also allows for the closure of Melbourne Park's two retractable roofs covering the two main stadium courts. Play will only restart when weather conditions ease.

It is the third day where the policy has been implemented.

On Saturday, a distressed Michaella Krajicek became the first victim of the furnace conditions here when heat exhaustion forced the Dutch teenager to concede her third-round match.

It doesn't matter how hot it gets, as long as they keep the beer cold. That said...110 degrees is pretty nasty.

I love the fresh covering of snow we got last night. I'll take 30/40 degrees over 110 anyday.

As long as you have AC and a fridge full of refreshments you should be fine.

We're surviving just as you describe. Sadly, some of my countrymen in South Australia have been experiencing power blackouts - threatening the flow of the cold amber of life!

That is pretty damn hot...hotter than it's ever been here (our max was 104F/40C in the summer of '88)...

We haven't had more than an inch of snow since mid December...it was 50 degrees yesterday, more like 30 today but still no snow.

That can be deadly in those temps for the infirm.

Solution: a generator.

I don't mind a little bit of heat, but it's the humidity that makes things irritating.

Same here. The 100 degree heat in Vegas bothers me less than 90 and humid here.

They say a 106 degree (F) fever will do brain damage. 110 Degrees is four over that.

And I'm sure you're not looking forward to your next electric bill!
