Huh? The entire production costs, including salaries, was 14 million.
Where did you read THAT? It's probably already profitable.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Blair Witch Project are probably the best recent examples of indie films that started in limited release and were gradually expanded into blockbusters as they built up buzz. Million Dollar Baby is a good example too, but they kept that in theaters forever to limp over the $100 million mark. I think it was something of an ego thing on the part of the studio.
Let me guess. This means it isn't losing as much money as the rest of the garbage coming out of Hollyweird?
We are all homo's they win:)How are we going to have kids? What the heck it's #1 we will figure that out later.
BM is almost certainly in the black, and if it's not yet then it definitely will be after this upcoming weekend when it's expected to pass $40 million domestic box office and $10 million foreign box office.
Two very good examples. Thanks.
Box Office Mojo has the last spear coming in at number 10 this weekend and Brokeback Mountain at number 2. I thought we were getting folks out to see the Last Spear as a showing to Hollywood that Christians care about Christian Movies and want to see more of them. This movie has been all over this site and yet they are predicting that only 4 million will be made on this movie. It only cost 10 million, but it really needs to make as much money as possible this weekend because they are not going to give this movie legs like they did Brokeback Mountain. If it get three weekends it will be lucky unless we make a statement by seeing it. Get to work folks. This is our test to Hollywood that we have been waiting for. Otherwise if Brokeback Mountain beats the Last Spear that we can't really complain that people don't want to see undesireable movies because we have way more Christians that should see Last Spear as compared to the small amount of people that would normally see Brokeback Mountains. Come on guys lets not fail this test and have Hollywood laugh at us on Monday morning. Have fun seeing Last Spear.

On one of my AOL addresses I get a running ad for this film. I didn't realize AOL was promoting it.
I assume that Hollywood-speak for "accumulated." Pretty sick term, considering the context.
as I read earlier, " it is a chick flick with NO Chick".
"This is just my take, but it was a story I read several times in my college English courses. I hate that it's being demonized."
I agree. The movie version is total sensationalism compared to the short story that "inspired" it.
But E. Annie Proulx and Larry McMurtry both signed on the dotted line and took the money the studio offered. Larry McMurtry ('Lonesome Dove,' 'Terms of Endearment') was the screenwriter; i.e. the one responsible for sexing it up. Be mad at him, for starters, if you want your literature to stay pure; but you're wasting your time. ;)
(I much prefer books over movies, too.)
Well, that explains that, then.
Chick flick? Not for this little chickey.
not me either.
just found the line humorous. chick flick, No Chicks
Some of you should see it or wait for it on DVD or something (if you don't want to contribute to ticket sales) but I think you'd find it a lot better than you expected.
Or folks could read the original story, which is still online in a few places.
google "Let me get the order list."
Why should we waste our time? It is a political film trying to normalize behavior that most people think is wrong. The film demonizes religious people and has a Mathew Shephard type lynching it in as if that once in a life time incident is a common occurance. If you are a bigoted liberal who believe that Christian conservatives are waiting around to lynch gays, by all means watch this stupid movie and reinforce your stereotype.
