PEEPIN' STEPHEN: Stephen Baldwin, a born-again Christian, plans to snap photos of license plates of people going into a Nyack store once it's a sex shop, then publicize their names. Photo: Djamilla Rosa/WireImage.com
Actor Stephen Baldwin has his shorts in a bunch over a sex shop opening near his estate in Rockland County.....
The least-known of the Baldwins, Stephen, a born-again Christian, parked himself outside the Route 59 location in Nyack and took snapshots of construction workers walking in and out of the building.
Once the smut shop opens in a few months, the 39-year-old star of "The Usual Suspects" plans to photograph patrons' license plates and run their names in the local newspaper to shame them from ever returning.
His beef is that the store is within a quarter-mile of the community's residential area. "This is a thoroughfare that I drive by many, many times as do college kids, mothers with their children," Baldwin said.
He said he and other residents protested at Nyack planning-board meetings and asked the owner, Quintus Algama of Hollis, Queens, to choose a more distant location, but he wouldn't listen.
In addition to selling sex toys and porn, the shop will also feature video booths where patrons can watch hardcore flicks in total privacy.
"These guys want to do this business, God bless 'em. That's between them and God. They'll have to deal with that for eternity. But the people of Nyack do not want this location where it is," Baldwin said.
Baldwin said he's already enlisted the help of dozens of students of nearby Nyack College who'll be at the store the day it opens to protest.

No. It's not. You can take pics on a public sidewalk.
Local police "responded to the property last night after Baldwin called them about 9:30 p.m.," the newspaper related. "He said the workers were giving him a hard time for taking photographs. Police told Baldwin he was free to protest and take photographs as long as he was not on the store's property."

Me neither. *shrugs*
Since my parents are wolves, I don't worry about that.
;-)
Bizarre response 2..
"His family probably already knows who his clients are."
"If he's a pretty clean guy his friends and clients will believe him when he says he was there for business. "
How will he know who saw his photo implying he was immoral or of bad character? Do you really believe his friends, clients or others will believe his explanations or even broach the subject with him? Isn't he guilty by association and unfairly characterized? This is one reason people get sued for actions of character assassination.
Are you still talking about the rare accountant who does house calls?
I guess this is why it's important to associate with good people. We get tarnished if we hang out with bad people.
What's so hard to understand? If you take a picture of someone and deliberatly PUBLISH it in a context that implies that person is immoral or of bad character, you will be subject to civil suit.
"So you must believe that it's immoral to frequent a porn shop."
I haven't commented on what I believe is or isn't immoral.
"People cannot sue for a pic of them taken in public."
People sue all the time. Public figures are usually exceptions.
I live in Nyack and I'm Ok with having a store like this. However,I don't get why we need another shop when we already have "Romantic Depot" up the road from this place. mmmmm Maybe RD is closing.
If he's going into a porn shop, guess he'll have to suffer the CONSEQUENCES. Basic conservative tenant, for every action there are consequences. If someone doesn't want to be seen PUBLICLY entering a business, DON'T GO THERE.
If someone doesn't want to suffer the stigma of bad behaviour, stop the behaviour.
"Are you still talking about the rare accountant who does house calls?"
No. Substitute any person or profession that calls on businesses for "accountant". It makes no difference. Deliberate character assassination could affect anyone who happens to call on these business and who may be of high moral character.
If you are in PUBLIC, you are fair game. PUBLICLY entering a store is fair game. You don't want to be caught PUBLICLY, don't go there.
I haven't commented on what I believe is or isn't immoral.
Yes you have. You keep saying that having your pic taken while entering or leaving a porn shop is " tainting someone as immoral or of bad character ". Your words from post 248.
People sue all the time.
Public actions are not private. Public pics are fair game.

he's a born again Christian? Geez. I need to read the entire thing here.
Having read the piece, I'm gonna side on his side. That smut shop can go elsewhere...there are plenty of realtors who want that business.
DD, have you ever been in one of these shops before? You can answer me personally.
I'm understanding your point here, Paula.
He has become a Christian. One of his first public appearances was at the Creation Festival in June of 2004. He didn't speak publicly but quietly spoke with others after a minister announced his belief and gave a short version of his testimony. He also does stuff for kids with this guy.
As a Believer, I have to disagree. Jesus wasn't a doormat. He fashioned a whip and drove the moneylenders and sellers from His Fathers house. There are times when Christians need to draw the line. Taking public pics of this stores customers is that line for Baldwin.
Doubt it.
If I did shop at a porn shop, no I wouldn't.
