With all the Hollywood Hoopla glorifying a Western Movie about *Gay Cowboys* I thought a thread identifying a True American Western Movie is in order, so freepers what is you're all time Favorite Western Movie?
Those were the three I was going to mention. You must have great tastes & above average intelligence.....too. ;o)
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Seven Brides For Seven Brothers! No brokeback crap there!
The Magnificent Seven (The Seven Samurai also)
Any Yojimbo derivative (A Fistful of Dollars, Last Man Standing, etc)
Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name series (Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and Good, Bad, and Ugly)
Big Jake
True Grit
Outlaw Josey Wales
There are probably several others, as well.
Blazing Saddles.
Oof, thats a great one, and Return To Snowy river. Also like Love Comes Softly and Loves Enduring Promise; kinda laid back but decent movies nonetheless. I like pioneer-type stuff
Lonesome Dove (amazing book, too)
A Fistful of Dollars
Silverado
the edge
I didn't know snowy river was in Australia?
Do you rememeber the one I think it was called WHITE BUFFALO? it also was a good one and has not been on TV for years..
Any western with Jimmy Stewart in it. 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' for starters, since it had both Wayne and Stewart in superb roles.
The Sons of Katie Elder is another great western...just about anything with John Wayne is a sure bet!
--The Wild Bunch--
And I'll repay you the compliment in kind, ma'am.
Any movie with Alec Baldwin in it is not worth a warm bucket of spit, to borrow a phrase.
ROTFLMBO! My all time favorite "Western". Gotta throw Tombstone and Lonesome Dove in there too. *~
ping
This one was good too!
Plot Summary for
Monte Walsh (2003) (TV)
Monte Walsh and Chet Rollins are long-time cowhands, working whatever ranch work comes their way, but "nothing they can't do from a horse." Their lives are divided between months on the range and the occasional trip into town. Monte has a long-term relationship with prostitute Martine Bernard, while Chet has fallen under the spell of the widow who owns the hardware store. Camaraderie and competition with the other cowboys fill their days, until one of the hands, Shorty Austin, loses his job and gets involved in rustling and killing. Then Monte and Chet find that their lives on the range are inexorably redirected.
In the old days, cowboys were real men....
Isn't that Rock Hudson??? Oh MY...
Definitely, The Searchers. I'm not a fan of westerns, but this is one of the great movies, of any genre, of all time.
