NEW YORK -- The NFL said the referee made a mistake: Troy Polamalu caught the ball.
The league acknowledged Monday that referee Pete Morelli erred when he overturned on replay Polamalu's interception of a Peyton Manning pass Sunday in the playoff game between Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
Mike Pereira, the league's vice president of officiating, said in a statement that Morelli should have upheld the call, made with 5:26 left in Pittsburgh's win over the Colts.

I don't think I stated in a clear way what I meant to say. I meant that when a questionable call is made and after replay analysis the call is clearly wrong but doesn't get reversed.
LOL............... Belichick seems to have a trance over Cowher.
;-)
I don't believe that. It was simply human error. If the refs were really for Indy, why didn't they call the Steelers for "delay of game" when they didn't snap the ball? Why didn't they call PI on the Steelers on the Colts last pass to the EZ? They could have easily called it if they had wanted to.
"He had one knee and a head of hair down .... Interception" mikrofon
LOL
Sure. And I think Cowher paid Vanderjagt to miss the FG by 40 yards. I mean after all, he's never missed quite that bad before, so obviously the "fix" was in and Cowher knows Vanderjagt's price, which is a cheap bottle of vodka.
HUH? If the refs screw up and the league doesn't say anything, then you'd be saying it's "bogus and bad for the game".
Ignoring an obvious mistake would be more "bogus" than owning up to it.
I don't know about that but the refs did everything they could to keep Indy in the game and they still couldn't finish the job. Vanderjagt choked, plain and simple.
Sarcasm is the protest of the weak.
Those - like me - who suspect media/ratings mania at the NFL's highest levels have every right and reason to suspect fishy goings on.
A kicker missing a field goal is a finite event controlled only by him and occurring during the actual play of the game. Coming up with an inexplicable replay call after looking into a peep show booth and holding a private conversation is not.
If you're going to list the bad calls, then list all of them, including the ones that should have gone to the Steelers (holding Randle El on his pass route, etc.).
Best way to overcome bad refereeing is to score more points.
"...I've gotta get me a "# 43" teeshirt in honor of my favorite Steeler, Troy Polamalu...."
Troy has so much hair, it looks like Cousin It is playing for the Steelers. TP is a damned fine player and DID intercept that ball.
Actually, sarcasm is the solution to the protest of the weak and to the foolish positions some freepers take. This latest weak protest by you is just another fanciful "Who shot Kennedy?"-type conspiracy theory. Oliver is that you?
Exactly my point. The reffing has been bad throughout the playoffs; however, it's not been one-sided.
I didn't see the game. But there is no way the Colts could be as good as they were a month ago.
As an employee of a man that lost his only son, several months ago, to an MVA, I can tell you, we (the entire company) still haven't gotten back up to top efficiency. And were professionals at our jobs. Every time he speaks, you struggle with thoughts like, "How's he doing now?".
IMHO, it's simply not possible to look at the man an not KNOW that he is still torn and hurt deeply. It affects your efficiency on the job. Maybe not much, but a little can be all the difference.
Sure the players are professionals, but its only a game, and they've probably had a hard time making it really, really, important enough to play at that, 110 %, peak form again.
It was actually a quotation from literature - obviously lost on you.
Ooooo. Mr. Intellectual. Well, I just give you a better quotation to think about.
Ollie?
I thought it was really (dare I use the word) sweet, that while the replay was being reviewed, and TP knew that the camera was on him, he took off is glove and pointed to his wedding ring. I just was really was touched by that...
