Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And there are many paths to tread
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yeah, I liked it. It's an IT outsourcer for small to medium businesses, and they need a phone tech who's not adverse to working with a bunch of tough-talking men. They're so rough and tough, in fact, that the only woman interviewing me asked the male interviewer to leave the room, them warned me about their raucous nature.
I don't have a problem working with men, even the ones who use rough language. As long as they refrain from deliberately making noxious odors in tiny meeting rooms and then blocking the only door out, I'm fine. As long as they don't wander around the office in the daytime in their underwear, I can cope. As long as they don't go on business trips and send back email critiques of the lap dancers, I can deal.
Especially for the money they're offering. Especially for the possibility of doing more than simple phone support. Keep your fingers crossed ... the interview was supposed to last 45minutes, and went for 65.
I just think you should keep your digestion and your underwear and your more personal off-the-job escapades to yourself, you know?

I, on the other hand, am over on a personality test thread noting that Jack Bauer (well at least Kiefer) and I are both ISFJ.
And they dare to taunt ~me~ with Gandalf references...

Heh, just out of college, I worked as a telephone operator and outside sales radio operator for a Lumber Company. My desk was just inside the doors from the Lumber yard sales desk. Boy did I get an education in 'tough-speak'! I'd never heard such foul language in my life. Fortunately, I wasn't inclined to pick it up. If I'd come home talking like that, my Daddy woulda washed my 21 yr. old mouth out with soap!

<laughing> I was hired for my second job, at the newspaper, because the girl who had been doing my job was afraid of computer terminals and the typesetters, the men who actaully assembled the newspaper from printed strips of heavy white paper (called galleys) that were stuck to poster boards using hot wax.
(For more on this process, which predated true computerization of newspaper production, see here.)
The first day, I walked upstairs to the typesetter's den deathly afraid. What would they do? The girl who'd worked there before me had been unwilling to come in to brief me. So I walked in alone, to proofread ...
And met some of the nicest men around, full of fun and always cracking jokes that, to me, were well within the boundaries of propriety.
One woman's frightening harrassment is another's funny joke ...

Sounds like that interview holds promise, chica!
This would make this one of the best weeks in the Hobbit Hole if you get it! :-)

Yeah, the guys didn't bother me, they were funny as all get out, and my ears didn't wilt, but I sure as heck didn't repeat any of that chatter! LOL!

After more due diligence, I bought three more CKRT folding knives with the "Operation Iraqi Freedom" etch on them. The knives themselves are still in production, but the ones with the etch were made in limited numbers, and getting harder to find. We now have four of the top knife, and three of the middle one, on hand.
