The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm glad the weekend went well!

Did you accomplish the retreat's goals?

Yup. Got the little certificate that says we done it. Er... and we listened to a lot of good talks and did a bunch of communicat'n and all that.
There was not much we had not already covered to some degree in prior conversations. But it was still really good. Plenty of good advice and interesting perspectives.

Heh...I just called and told him the graduation date and he said "Ok...but don't tell anybody!" So he must be still a little anxious about it not happening.

And it might not. If they don't approve this thesis this semester, it won't.

But his committee keeps saying "It'll be done this semester".

So we're more hopeful than we've ever been.

But still......

Heh heh!

~nervous laugh~

"that is not good conflict resolution"

Yeah, when guns are involved, I'd say the 'conflict resolution' has gotten vey series.

I need to find pictures that show the flowers better - I have no idea what they're gonna look like!

She said they'd be pink and clustered, as I recall.

Since we'd started thinking about the possibility of moving on, I started checking out the 'you move it yourself', places. I found MOVEOUT, to be a good, reasonably priced, source of all different sizes of moving boxes, and they have free delivery! They also have a 'calculator' on their site that helps you figure out how much you need, so you can guesstimate how much it's gonna cost in supplies. We also checked out moving companies, and UPack is interesting because you only pay for the space you use in their truck. If there is room left, they ship freight to the place your stuff is going.

We also checked out the PODS company. PODS lets you keep the container longer, and it's at ground level, so you can fill it as you pack, but it's a little more expensive for the move. What's not clear on their website, is the cost per day as you're packing it.

UPack only gives you the container for two days, so you have to get everything packed and ready to go, but it's less expensive to move with them, than the PODS. Both sites have a way to estimate moving costs, though.

Steve said I can't tell anyone till he's just about to walk across the stage. Heh heh!

We're both still very apprehensive. This is gonna be a long semester.

He's staying this evening and working on the thesis...the things the committee suggested this past Friday. He hopes to get it in by the end of this week and then he's going to say "I'm available to meet with you at your convenience any time next week." and put their feet to the fire a bit so they won't need "reminding".

Right. Steve will go this afternoon and sign up for the two hours...he has the name of a woman in admissions that will sign a "card" for him.

So really...everything, but the thesis, is complete. All his requirements are met, all his graduation paperwork is filled out.

Come'on, THESIS!!!

UPack is the one I'm planning on going with for my move.

I don't have that much, but it's enough to where I can't ship it all via USPS or UPS.

UPack sounded like a pretty good deal. The best part, for us, is that they bring a 28' trailer, but they only charge you for the part you use. So if we underestimated, when we thought we only needed 20', we have some extra room in the trailer, we just have to pay for it.

If you only have enough to fill 12' of space, that's all you're charged for, and they don't lose anything, because they fill the trailer up with stuff from another family, or freight that needs to go in the direction your stuff is going.

The logistical planning division for that company must be vey interesting.

Heh, too late, but if you can't tell your friends, how can you let them know the date to pray for!?
