New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
it's a light cherry
I'm done over there. Looks like the know-it-all crowd has backed down a bit. :-D
We were looking at cherry for hardwood flooring for the remodel. It is just so warm and rich looking.
How lovely!! Y'all should make Turkish Delight!
(I think corn flour is the same thing as corn starch. I don't think it meals corn meal. I'm sure icing sugar is powdered sugar.)
Turkish Delight
1 1/4 cups of water
2 tablespoons Gelatine
2 tablespoons Icing Sugar
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon of Rosewater
1 tablespoon Corn flour
Few drops red food colouring
(I didn't include it in my copy of the recipe, but I recall that you could put almond slivers into it)
Method:
1). In a small saucepan dissolve the gelatine in half of the water over a moderate heat.
2). In another saucepan (a heavy one), dissolve the sugar in the rest of the water, stirring with a wooden spoon until dissolved.
3). Bring this (Sugar water) to the boil, then remove from the heat and add the gelatine mix.
4). Return this mix to the heat and simmer gently over a low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring all the time.
5). Remove from the heat, stir in the Rosewater, colouring (and optional nuts if you want the nutty type).
6). Cover the pan and leave for 15 minutes.
7). Skim off any skin, and pour into a 15cm square tray which has been rinsed with water (and left wet). Leave this to set (overnight)
8). Sift together the icing sugar and Corn flour. Rub a little over the surface of the set Turkish delight in the tin. Use a sharp knife (that is dipped in the icing sugar mixture) to cut the Delight into squares.
9). Toss these into the remaining Icing mixture to coat them.
The wind was really howling there for a bit, but I don't think we got any thunder snow. That is the coolest phenomenon! Behind the gray skies, you see a flash, then a few seconds later the thunder rolls.
Just heard from Rosie... she's almost to the stopping point so we were doing some figgering to see if it made sense for her to go any further tonight. It doesn't. So she may be checking in here herself soon if the hotel has internet.
Wonderful! Where 'bouts is she? I've been thinking about her all day!
Afternoon Corin; very nice pics of 'wardrobe' snow. It appears also that the floor meets with Sam's approval. Good Show.
Amazing! I have never seen anything like that!
Gotta go cover up my garden...be back in a sec.
Good News indeed, thanks, OB & LSA
Now that's a goodly amount of snow; wonder how LF is faring?
Big Ol' posted some pictures:

Thanks for letting us know, Jen!
She's in Utah, or at least was when I talked to her, that's where her planned stop is. She said she'd check in with someone later... guess they don't have internet there though.
I have some friends (long story) who did a Narnia event. They searched for the "official" Turkish Delight. They said it's pretty nasty stuff.
Theory is that Lewis picked it because it was ~not~ a favorite and it would seem odd that Edmund became so fond of it.
A cruel joke was played on me for that one. The first time I saw it, they said it was a romantic comedy. (Not my usual fare either, but these were/are friends.)
Right up until the first gull hit on the lake, it was.
Heh. Yeah birds plucking out eyeballs is SO romantic. ;o)
A location joke; you had to be there.
Well it had love birds in it....what else do you want? :)
