The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Afternoon folks...Luke has officially turned 6. Had his party at the Aviation Museum this afternoon.

Kids. Sugar. You know the drill.

And, some things are just unexplainable...it's the nastiest day of the year. Nana hasn't been out of the house since Christmas (except for to go to thedoctor). She comes down this afternoon dressed and ready to go to the party.

We had to s'plain she weren't invited. Well, not exactly, but she can't grasp onto the fact that ~tonight~ is the dinner we planned for family and that all she would have done this afternoon was sit and watch...and we would have had to pay extra.

Pictures later. Internet was out since last night some time. I thought we'd be out until Monday and have a service call in for Monday morning (their earliest availability). I may wait until tomorrow night to cancel it.

With any luck, the storm will force brother-and-sister-in-law (Sister Mary Ham Burner) to go home tonight.

So, there's that...

Corin, I don't get this at all. Night for family? What's Nana?

She comes down this afternoon dressed and ready to go to the party.

It just sounds incredibly sad and mean to say she's not invited to a child's birthday party.

And I don't have time to stay on and scour this now... I'm on my way out the door. Back tonight.

Perhaps I didn't type it well.

This afternoon, we invited the boys in Luke's class and his two cousins to the party.

Tonight we're having our household family, Richmond brother-in-law and three kids (two of which who were at the party, their mom is away), and the Aunt and Uncle from North Carolina.

Nana's not being excluded from anything.

Oh - OK - I guess I get that...

I thought you'd told the poor woman she couldn't go to Luke's party!

Sorry Corin. :~D

You survived the party, more or less? Excellent... and after this age Luke should get easier for a while, until he hits teenager, right?

Evening Corin, birthday party at the Aviation Museum? Way cool; Didn't know they did that. Was there a while back, say 15 years or so, pretty nifty place.

*waves to D&D*

Getting the girls ready for a bath. Becky's in a snit because I wouldn't let her spend the night at my sister's.

.... Kelly's boyfriend is over there, so I figure she wants some privacy. And the ~real~ reason I won't let her go is that Kelly lets Becky go hang out at the neighbor's homes without keeping track of where she is or who she's with. I'm not a fan. :-/

Well, thanks.

I do get some grief from her over my "overprotective tendencies".

...But she has a boy, so I guess she doesn't worry as much as I do about neighborhood weirdoes. Although sadly in this day and age, that doesn't make much of a difference.

Well... there's overprotective, and there's unprotective. Seems to me that "Knowing the location of the kid" is just basic.

Well, she figures that knowing they are at the neighbor's house ~is~ knowing their location. Even if she doesn't know exactly which neighbor.

But she's only lived there a few months and barely knows her neighbors. I think she's crazy for even letting my nephew wander about in that manner.

Anyway, Becky's over it now. She washed her snit away in the tub. :-)

Aviation Museums are way cool! When we go down to Perdido Key, we always go the the National Aviation Museum. We watch the Blue Angels practice then sometimes go see a show at the IMAX theater.
