The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

All right! That's good news.

I'm looking forward to doing something fun tomorrow. I have a lot of homework to do but I shouldn't have time fitting that in. Try to think if there's anything you want to do before leaving!

I've not noticed it in our back yard, but I remember seeing an entire field of them do it in Wisconsin!

I really can't believe everything is still alive. They're growing real slow, but they're very much alive! I cover them with the floating row cover stuff over night and went out to find it covered in frost. Once the sun hits the garden, no matter the outside temperature, I uncover them and allow the sun to warm the soil. Then, at dusk, I go out and cover it all back up again.

Nothing has died. I have small spinach, lettuce, collards, carrots, and turnips...very small, but alive!

The garlic looks like it's in heaven, though, and is 6-8" tall already!

No, it's a guy named Steve Holland.

I saw Flash Gordon in the cinema! No kidding, it was back in 1980 and it's all very vague (it was vague the day after I saw it.) Queen did the soundtrack and I still remember *that* part of it, even though I've never seen it since!

Flash - Ah - Saviour of the universe
Flash - Ah - He'll save ev'ry one of us

Heh heh heh...oh my.

I just wish I had more to say goodbye to. Is that twisted of me or what?

I do want to wander Old Town a bit. And depending on the amount of time we had and whether the snow is gone at all, maybe we could drive somewhere closeby to look at pretty scenery.

Ungh...I need to go to the library to print, but I don't know that I can easily squeeze it in today. Shoulda done it yesterday, I guess. Unless I go after the bed lady and before the snowshoe lady...

Eh...it's likely to be a lot of pages. Map stuff. Still haven't printed those.

So? If it's not gonna be thirty pages of stuff, send it. I need to steal your quarters for laundry anyway, I don't want you to spend them on printing ;-)

Well...some of it would involve logging into my Expedia account. I'm gonna use the directions Rose gave me, plus print out a few extra things.

If you're willing to print 'em - great! I'll FReepmail you the info...

Can't you get a cuppa and a roll for the road on your way out of town?

Nah, they aren't open before eleven on Sundays, unfortunately. *snif*

Maybe I'll get one at Mugs, though. That's where I used to go hang out when I was writing.

Was it you who said you'd watched Ringers: Lord of the Fans? Clare and I just finished it. It was kinda fun. My favorite was the mariachi band singing about Lord of the Rings merchandising.

Well, I'm about to run Tweek back up to the vets. Her seroma is twice as big as it was yesterday and though it doesn't seem to bother her, it's bothering me, with it being friday and heading into the weekend and all. I want to be sure this thing is as is should be before the weekend.

Yeah - we saw it... it was cute, but we were disappointed that the fans all seemed goofy and immature compared to the "real" cross-section of fans... US! ~right?~

I haven't used them in two winters anyway. Sad, really.

I don't think so. I have at least 5 or 10 'hobbies' that I have not done much of in more years than that. Heck I have only been shooting a few times since shootmoot. Hmmm suddenly I have the urge to blow holes in stuff...

I should at least be able to do some hiking! Lookin' forward to that. And the bike, such as it is, is coming. Unless it blows off the roof halfway through Idaho. ;-)

And if I find there are lots of places around to snowshoe...well, I can probably find some used ones myself.
