The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Kewl...and my old company from VT is gonna send them a letter of credit so's I don't have to pay the initial deposit.

Whew. That saves me a good chunk.

One of my hermit crabs died while I was away. :-(

The temp and humidity was OK and they had food and water, so I can't explain why it happened.

No, not Bubba. One of the smaller guys.

Must have died yesterday. That tank was already starting to smell rather unpleasant. :-P

Yeah...should save me close to $200, from what the lady told me.

And the first bill won't be due until mid-March. That's a comfort...hopefully should have at least a temp job by then.

I'm still boggled by how things have gone here. Bilbo moved to CA last fall and when he went to a temp agency, they got him a job within a few days - a pretty decent one, too. Considering I a) have experience, and b) told 'em I'd do almost anything they thought my skills would translate to, you'd think I'd have had some calls.

*shrug* Maybe things will be different where I'm goin'.

Heh - yeah - I suppose they're busy... but the good news is the power was ~not~ off... and I turned the furnace on already to get some heat in it.

Well, different is one word for it.

I've been inside the place. While there is some good news, there is also a lot wrong inside. Electric fixtures missing, the stove needs replaced, and the floor is gone in one of the bathrooms.

The good news is that it doesn't smell bad inside, the carpets and grime look cleanable.... But the landlord needs to fix those fixtures and the stove and the floor in the bathroom. And we'd better work up a list of who'll take responsibility for what and when.

I took pics, I'll upload them nice and big and FRMail you links in a minute. See if it's something you want to take on!

Eeek! Not too pretty by the sound of it. But hey, almost anything is fixable.

Fixable, but the question is whether it's worth doing for Rosie to take on. Even after it's cleaned up, there's stuff the landlord NEEDS to step up and do for it to be worth paying rent on. It's fixable if he'll be a willing landlord. He did nod and say yes, he'll replace the stove and the fixtures and the floor in the bathroom, but he hasn't gone to look yet, he's working the store and couldn't leave.

As is, and with us doing the work, she could get a lot better for the price he wants to offer after the free rent is up.

If nothing else, I suppose it'll be a roof over my head for the next few months.

And if he steps up and takes care of everything pretty quickly...it could still be a purty good place.

Hope he does actually go take a look at it pretty fast, though. I wonder if he actually will...

I would plan on you living with us for at least a week to get it livable.

I sent the link to the pictures in FRMail... Didn't know if you wanted them public or not ;~D

It's how it is now... not how it could be :~D
