The Hobbit Hole XXVII - And there are many paths to tread...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 01/16/2006 6:56:15 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And there are many paths to tread

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have "I Got You, Babe" stuck in my head now.

Great.

Let's start the day over, shall we?

You want my pumpkin bread recipe? Or do you have a family one? Mine is fabulous and makes 4 loaves (smallish loaves, not full-size bread loaves, but not the tiny loaves either. My foil pans are 3 and a fourth by 7 and a fourth inches.)

I make it and keep it frozen in Rudolph.

I only have one bread pan...would it halve easily and fit in that?

I was just going to look around until I found I recipe that wouldn't require buying extra ingredients - trying not to purchase anything this close to leaving.

Naw, it's a hugh recipe. It's my Christmas pumpkin bread recipe and it makes a lot. Calls for something like 4 cups of flour, 3 cups of sugar...heh heh!

It's good though. It's what the trash guy got and the mail lady!

I'm sure I can find something good if I Google. Lately I end up doing that more than using recipe books.

And my recipe books are all packed up anyhow...

I almost always go to allrecipes.com first thing. I can usually find a good recipe there. Another interesting site for more 'gourmet' recipes is epicurious.com.

I've used those...need to bookmark 'em!

I've also gotten some good recipes from cooks.com, but it's not a very organized site and has pop-ups, as I recall.

Gonna continue putting boxes in the van today...that way I can see what is going to have to be mailed. Wish I knew for sure what would be cheaper if I *do* mail stuff: USPS, Fedex, UPS... I guess if it's all books, USPS will likely be less, right?

Yeah, it's hard to beat the USPS book rate, but you could check web sites for the other companies.

Yeah, the USPS has the 'media rate', so why not take one of the book boxes to a post office to get an idea of how much it will cost to send a box of books, then check the cost of shipping a lighter weight box through UPS? It may be cheaper to use UPS for some lighter weight boxes and take the heavier boxes in the van.

I used the rating thing on usps.com...some of my heavier book boxes will cost up to fifteen dollars each. I suppose it's cheaper than replacing 'em, but it adds up fast.

Ungh...wish the van hadn't needed so many repairs!

Guess I'll just hafta see how efficiently I can pack the van, for one.

Look at it this way, that extra weight in the back of the van, from all those books, will help keep it from sliding around on any slushy roads on the trip. ;o)
