Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
And there are many paths to tread
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Good morning!
I almost logged in around 2:30am, had a nightmare that Joshua had fallen down a mine shaft. Musta been the news that "Baby Jessica" got married yesterday and it reminded me of that situation so many years ago.
Anyway, I had a bout of reflux, so I took a couple of tums and actually got back to sleep.
It was a reminder to me to really do my research before buying that bit of land, though.

It was a reminder to me to really do my research before buying that bit of land, though. That, and walking the property with a good sturdy stick to poke the ground.
We have almost an acre here, and we had been here almost 15 years before I ever went all the way to the back of the property! The lot is only about 100' wide but is more than 350' deep, and is cut in half by a drainage ditch that runs across the lot and down the hill. I hadn't been to the part behind the ditch, mainly because it is a sharp slope downhill, and there was nothing there but trees and bushes, which are close spaced in the spring and summer. When we had the lot surveyed three years ago when we were planning the remodel, I finally walked to the back to find where they'd put one of the corner markers. It's a hike back there, but even more so coming back UP the hill! ;o)

I don't imagine I'll get any sleep tonight. Too worried about oversleeping and missing the flight. :-/

We have an organization here that cleans up old oilwell sites...called OERB and they do it for free...but I don't think they cover "mine shafts".
I wouldn't know where to begin to look for a land's history, beyond the obvious "Tar Creek Superfund"...an area of Oklahoma that was mined and a by-product that was left behind was literally *mountains* of lead-contaminated "chat". I'm talking mountains (not mounds) that you can see from a distance that has now leached into the water.
Obviously, we won't want to buy in that area...heh.

Good morning! I'll be busily tidying up here today :~D

Don't go all FlyLady on my behalf, chica.
Just open up a spot on the couch and clear a path from the door to the bed and that's fine by me! *grin*

Mornin'! Got my fingers crossed for ya!
*sigh* I gotta make a bridge burning phone call this morning. Or bridge charring, at least. More or less have a job offer, but it's for another temporary job, and I don't plan to stick around anyhow. Just don't like cutting ties anyway. But that's life.

In other news, our new bread knife is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Amazing what serration can do...

I'll tell ya what... I won't clean ~while~ you're here, but you can't stop me from doing it now :~D

I will be having to go over to the store today, I'll check with the landlord about the email...

I know not everyone takes e-mail as for granted as we do. ;-)
And probably most don't check theirs every five or ten minutes...
To: HairOfTheDog
With enough cuban coffee, I'll clean up the place for ya. ;-)
